Cannot connect iphone 3gs to my Lexus 350's bluetooth system

My Lexus has a navigation system, and bluetooth connectivity. When I turn on my bluetooth on my iphone , it does not find the bluetooth from the Lexus. I know my car's bluetooth works, since my palm treo finds it (and if have unpaired that phone also)
