I got my second iMac 27" I7 last week shipped from California and there is no yellow tinge at all, it's just a beauty.
Really happy (Finally).

Can you tell us what week build it is, please?
Espresso, right.. Being an Italian word I should know that!
So, I returned a refurbished imac 21.5 with a yellow screen. Went to the Apple store to buy a new one. They opened up 5 different ones and they were all yellow (manager and 2 employees confirmed). They spotted the yellow on all 5 right away. A display model looked perfect so we had something to compare it to. I got took my refund.
Today I bought a Samsung 23" LED flat panel monitor (px2370). The pictures are so clear; no lame glare all over and the color is perfect, no yellow tinges. I'm a designer and the screen is most important.
I will wait for the Mac Minis or macbook pro's to get updated and connect one to this screen. No more lugging an imac to the store!

You don't have to show any photo's of your screen to anyone..
I can well believe the samsung shows none of the flaws that the 21.5 imac displays.
over the years I have brought many many types of lcd displays in one form or another,(like everyone else here) but have only come across so many problems since buying imac's!

I'm really wanting a 27" quad core iMac but this screen thing has me spooked. It will be used mainly for photo processing so these color issues are a big deal for me. Has anyone heard anything from Apple on this subject? It's strange that we haven't heard about Apple aggressively attacking this "quality" issue.
Well I just got my zillianth Quad core imac "Week 10", and I must say it has thrown up a surprise.
Yes it has the yellow tinge in places, and a stuck pixel, and three isight stuck pixels, and the horizontal grey bar effect on the bottom..
But I have a new feature in the form of a half moon shaped blue patch about 1/4"
or 1/2 a centimetre in diameter, 2" down from the isight camera....
Only noticable on black or dark screen, but it's always blue!
Sorry I've gone off topic but I had to tell someone....

Been using the Samsung screen now for 2 days and absolutely loving it. I have had a glossy screen up until this monitor and the flat panel is the way I will go from here on. My room is bright and this way I don't need to shut the blinds to get my work done.
The iMacs are a great clutter free machine, but they are really meant for the average consumer, not any designer who needs a custom work station and cares what their screen looks like.

I just got a very disturbing phone call from a senior Apple adviser in response to my email to them. In my email I detailed how my original iMac, as well as an LCD replacement I received did not solve the issue of yellow tinge and a gray band across the bottom of the screen, and that the replacement iMac I got afterward had exactly the same issues (along with a dead pixel and noisy hard drive). In my email I concluded that Apple was not able to guarantee a screen without problems and that rather than go through another replacement, I wanted to wait until Apple had solved this problem and at that time get the LCD replaced. I asked them to verify that this would be possible any time during the term of my AppleCare on the iMac.
In the phone call today, the senior Apple adviser told me that Apple policy is that you are only allowed one replacement screen and +that's it+. There will be no more resolution of the problem.
I said "So you're saying if Apple attempts to repair the problem and it is not fixed, your response is 'tough luck'?" He responded by repeating the restriction of one repair and that's it.
I find this a very disturbing response to my issues and completely contradicts the assurances of the first Apple adviser I talked to about the problem who said "We'll do whatever it takes to resolve this to your satisfaction."
I am a big fan of Apple in general and in all other ways I love this iMac, but I am very concerned at the draconian turn Apple has adopted in dealing with this wide-spread display issue.
If you have problems with your screen, I urge you to clarify with the person you talk to at Apple as to their policy and consider this in determining whether to get the screen repaired or go for a refund.
In the past, I would have encouraged a repair, but now, given Apple's +official policy+ of "one try, take it or leave it", I'm not so sure it's the right choice. If you can't depend on Apple standing behind their products, especially after you paid for an expensive AppleCare policy, it might be more prudent to avoid their products altogether, until they decide to fully support what they sell.

This is old news, and mostly false news!
You are so dismissive and condescending and don't even own a 27" iMac. Your attitude is very similar to some who work in my local Apple Store. When my $199 Samsung 23" 16:9 monitor displays a more uniform picture than the 27" iMacs that I have seen/returned, something isn't right. Nothing is perfect but for $2700+, I would expect a fairly uniform display. My last iMac returned had a hard drive failure but also a yellow tint in areas pof the screen. I wod have lived with it but the fact that the HD could not be wiped, kernal panics messages appeared, it had to go back. I am hoping for a decent replacement which is due in a few days.
My local Apple Store denied the issue for a long time.

First, the iMac 27" doesn't cost $2700. You may have paid $2700 coz' of optional upgrades. It starts at $1700 and you can easily knock $100 off from the edu store.
Also try to compare Apples to apples per se. First, 23" does not equals to 27". Also a 1920 max resolution screen does not equals to 2560.
No one twisted your arm to pay $2700. If you don't like it, return it and be happy with your 23" Samsung OR ask Samsung to build you a 27" version and see if it has the same color uniformity.
