Force Quit Spotlight?

Im having problems with spotlight...
I have accidentally hit display all before typing in my full query which so it, i guess is going to list every file on my hard drive. Ive done this a few times but in the past I've just restarted my system... but its really becoming a hassle now. Im new to macs so i may not be seeing the obvious solution (aside from not hitting the display all.

thanks

If you are getting the spinning pizza when you move your mouse over the items on the right side of the menu bar, after starting a Spotlight search, then you are running into the problem where SystemUIServer is crashing. There are several threads discussing this problem and solutions for it. Do a Search here in the forums on "SystemUIServer" to locate them.
