Ever since I upgraded to Snow Leopard, Photoshop CS3 hasn't been the same. Whether it is the OS or the new drivers to manage my printer and my scanner, I don't know.

Today, I had been working on Photoshop all day and at some point the computer got slow and it told me it had a software update. I decided to save everything I was doing, quit Photoshop and install Mac OS 10.6.3 hoping it was the answer to all the glitches.

Instead, Photoshop won't open at all anymore. I have restarted, shut down, repaired permissions, reinstalled the program, updated everything and it still won't open. It's the only program affected from my design suite as far as I can tell, but it's also the one I use the most!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I turned off "Open in Rosetta" and it works fine now.

In System Preferences > Version Cue, try turning it off and see if that makes a difference.

I've not got the full CS, just Photoshop so I can't see any version cue option in system prefs.

This situation really needs to be resolved ASAP!

    Have you tried Adobe Support?

If it's any help all CS3 components are working perfectly on my system.
They were slow and crashy for a while around 10.6.2 time. I deleted them completely and did a full reinstall of CS3 premium and since then everything has been fantastic.

There's a thread on Adobe's forums about it, and the more time passes the more people are reporting the issue. I've dusted off my old G4 for todays workload, but it doesn't seem like an isolated problem.

I'll hold out until the end of the week to see if a fix is forthcoming, otherwise I'll be contacting Adobe.

Same problem here: Photoshop CS3 and Illustrator CS3 crashing...

    Have you validated your fonts?
    Re-installed CS3?
    Deleted caches?
    What computers are you using?
    External hard drives?
It must be system related as cs3 running perfectly with me and very many others.

Also happened here with all of my CS3 apps on my Mac Pro. Also, Quark XPress v8.16 exhibited the same crash at startup. *_Not Good_*! Lightroom loaded properly with no issues. Haven't had a chance to run through every app yet, but as a Graphic Designer, those are the ones I need to work. An interesting tidbit was that this did NOT occur on the installs of CS3 and Quark XPress on my MacBook, which also was updated to 10.6.3. Just the Mac Pro.

Re-installed CS3 suite and Quark XPress to no avail. Also cleaned font caches.

I "fixed" this by re-installing Snow Leopard from the DVD which brought me back to 10.6, which just installs over itself, keeping all your apps and settings intact. I then downloaded the older 10.6.2 Combo Update, and installed that, which brought me back to the point I was at prior to 10.6.3. I also ran a software update after the 10.6.2 update, and installed all the found updates EXCEPT for the 10.6.3 update it found.

    No problems as of yet...
I'll report back if any do arise.

My gut feeling is that this is some sort of color profile or font issue.

    Delete caches using YASU,
    deactivated duplicate fonts,
switched color profiles and tried without external display.

That's that. Computer is a macbook pro

No. This takes ages... would be last resort. And it didn't work for the other guy...
