Q: GeForce GT 120 for 2006 Mac Pro?
The X1900 XT card in my 2006 Mac Pro has died just a few months past the end of AppleCare.
The Genius at my local Apple Store checked the price of a replacement (£400) and said I would be better off looking at the second-hand market when I told him I didn't use it for games or high-end graphics.
The problem I have is that the machine is owned by my employers and they won't allow me to buy second-hand components. But they won't pay £400 to replace the card, either. I have a PC on my desk as well, and they will just expect me to exclusively use that from now on :0(.
However, I saw that the GT 120 is going for a 'mere' £123. I think I could persuade them to invest that much in keeping me happy.
I realise that this card will not be the most powerful I could have, but I don't do much more than standard office stuff on this machine anyway (I know, I know!).
Could anyone tell me whether this is likely to work with my system (despite what the system requirements state)? I can put up with less than blazing performance if it means less time in XP.
Thanks,
Phil

Doesn't have the proper EFI ROM; it can't be used.
There is a site on ebay that has had 8800GT but you or someone else said that they tried 8800 and weren't satisfied with that either. 8800's are EOL.
Nope, 4870, maybe flashed, is your best and almost only, bet.
