Q: XSANVolume Not Mounting In 1 of 4 Suites

I work at a Community College with 4 editing suites accessing an XSAN. In one of the suites the XSANVolume has stopped mounting. It works fine with no issues in the other 3 suites.

The XSAN is seen by Disk Utility, but won't mount.

Fibre and network connections appear to be working and set correctly.

XSAN Admin shows the other machines connected but does NOT show this one.

I've re-installed XSAN 1.4.2, to no avail.

I am at a loss, and neither an XSAN nor an IT guru, so suggestions given in laymen's terms are very much appreciated. I can follow Terminal instructions even if I don't understand them

Thanks for any help,

Yarrow

    Hi Yarrow,

I would suggest checking the logs on both the client and metadata server.

    The log is located here:

    /var/log/system.log

The logs could be viewed in real time using the following command in the terminal:

    tail -f /var/log/system.log

Alternatively, you could Console.app to view logs:

    /Applications/Utilities/Console.app

Feel free to post pieces of the log so we could take a look.

Thanks so much for your reply. Here is my log result on the client machine:

The problem was apparently a missing file: /Library/Filesystems/Xsan/config/.auth_secret - no idea how it went missing but we've restored it and the XSANVolume mounts now.
