Leopard vs. Snow Leopard

I visited an Apple reseller (not an Apple store) this morning and was looking at the 13 abd 15" MBP laptops. I asked several questions. I asked "what is the difference between the hign end 13" and the low end 15"? She explained a couple of things and then said the 13" has Snow Leopard and the 15" only has Leopard and you have to buy the upgrade software and load it.

I said "Okay" and left. I thought all new laptops had Snow Leopard.

It's possible that the 15" was new in the box, but actually a leftover older model that hadn't sold. If so, it could have originally shipped with Leopard. If the 15" is a current model, it would ship with Snow Leopard.

If the 15" is actually an older model, it should sell for a discount.

It's also possible the salesperson was mistaken.

You should never have to buy a new Mac and purchase the upgrade separately. All new Macs come with the latest version of the OS (either installed, or with a disc in the box). Period. The salesperson had to be mistaken, or they're trying to double charge you for something you shouldn't need to buy.

Either that, or they're selling you a really old 15" MBP. Regardless, a disc should be in the box. Insist on that, or purchase from an Apple store or Apple online.

+When I buy, I will go to the local Apple store.+

THERE ya go!

A local Best Buy tried to sell me a year old MBP last November,
hoping I wouldn't figure it out. In addition to an older OS, they
wanted to charge me $300 for a Geek Squad set/up & repair service.
Oh yeah . . .

When you get yours,
be sure to hang around here.
You can't imagine how much you'll pick up.

I would at minimum consult the manager of that store to let them know they are selling equipment that is at least 9 months old as new. Snow Leopard should have been made prebundled in any Mac that shipped to them since August 28, 2009.

It otherwise should be sold as used or refurbished equipment IMHO.
