ITunes latest version and 10.3.9

Hello all. Currently have a G4 Power Mac that is running OS 10.3.9. Currently have ITunes version 7.1.1 (5). When I log into Itunes, it tells me that a newer version is available and would I like to download? Of course! When I start the process, it tells me I am up to date. I know that I am not. Also, when I plug my Ipod in, Itunes doesn't see it.
Can anyone give me some help please?

iTunes 7.7.1 is the latest for your Mac's OS. Get it here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL773

To see your iPod, You might need to remove and reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service. Check out this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747

You are up to date.
You cannot install any higher version of iTunes on 10.3.9.
You need Tiger or Leopard to go higher.

Ok. Is there any way for me to be able to see my Ipod. I can't add songs to it at all.
