Changing font size

This computer keeps changing the font size on web pages by itself. How do I make it stop?

Thanks

I see what you are talking about and I took that feature off. Prior to doing that, facebook resumed back to normal (by itself), but the aol mail is still huge (the regular aol page is the normal font). The zooming wasn't the problem, unfortunately.

I tried posting a question on google chrome, but no one is responding. I may just download firefox....or just call this mac a loss and go buy a pc laptop....I can't take the stress this mac has given me in the two weeks I have owned it. Nothing works right on this computer.

I had no problems with the display until last night. I just went through AOL to find out about the font. To get it back to normal you go through "view" and "zoom out." They have no idea what made it enlarge the first time, but the zoom process you described above may have been the culprit (however, I could not zoom out). I also have no idea how facebook fixed itself; I had the tab there and when I went back to facebook I seen the font change without even touching the keyboard. Phenomenal, I know.

I couldn't figure out how to open multiple tabs on safari, it wasn't allowing me to use aol (which also doesn't work properly with snow leopard), and I had a hard time figuring out how to make a favorites list. It just didn't seem user friendly. I also had problems with it in getting it to stream movies from netflix. All of these issues are now worked out, but I downloaded chrome after it was recommended by multiple people and safari wouldn't allow me to have aol as my home page (it would keep reverting back to apple homepage every time I shut the computer off).

Thanks for all your help. Wish me luck 🙂

Now that's definitely wrong. Try this. Close Safari if it's open. Go into your user account and open the Preferences folder. Delete the file:

com.apple.Safari.plist

Try Safari again and see if it now behaves normally.

I have had a problem with changing font sizes ever since I bought my MacBook about a year ago. I generally use Safari as my browser, and, regardless of which web page I am looking at, the size of the everything on the screen -- text, photos, you name it - suddenly becomes larger or shrinks in size. I have no doubt that I am somehow dragging my thumb across the mouse pad, but I do so subconsciously. This expanding and shrinking process happens dozens of times per hour, or more. I always have to hit control - or + to correct the size back to what it had been before the unexpected increase or decrease occurred. It is EXTREMELY annoying. I never had this problem with my older MacBooks.

I asked someone at one Apple Store, very early on, if this function could be disengaged. I was told that it was developed in connection with iphones, that it couldn't be turned off, and that I would just have to use the control - or + keys to get back to the font size I wanted. More recently I asked someone at a different store and was told it could be turned off under the system preferences/keyboard and mouse. I see no obvious option there, I un-checked the "turn zoom on or off" under keyboard shortcuts with no apparent affect.

I can't believe that this is not a widespread problem - it can happen to me 3 or 4 times in just a few seconds, only stopping when the text is at maximum size. I then hit control - a few times, only to have it shrink or blow up in size a few seconds later.

HELP!!!!!

I have the MacBook Pro also and the reason I found this blog is because I was searching for a solution to this same problem. I know that there is always some action I do on the mousepad to initiate the font size change but haven't figured out what that exact action is nor have I found a way to turn it off in preferences. Staying tuned in for a possible solution.

Is is possible that most of your problems and issues are simply caused by your lack of familiarity with the Apple operating system? There is a learning curve when switching to a Mac, but the curve is not terribly steep. Generally speaking, if there is something you want to do with your new computer, then there is a way to do it. You just need to figure out what you need to do. Accept a little responsibility for your troubles.

Safari should be able to do most everything you want. Actually I didn't know AOL was still in business. How did you go about trying to make it your home page? It's really simple to accomplish.

You now own a really great computer and you should make a concerted effort to learn how to use it properly. As I hope you know there are many resources available on the Apple web site. Don't give up the fight.

And as a gentle reminder, your on screen profile with its snide comments doesn't sit well with most folks here.

Forgive me if I'm suggesting the obvious thing-which-you-have-already-tried: System Preferences > Trackpad allows you to alter a number of settings. Uncheck 'Zoom while holding,' and check 'Ignore accidental input' and see if that helps. (In an older OS it might be System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Trackpad, but I'm not sure what the settings look like.)
