Cannot connect to iTunes Store - Make sure your network connection is activ

I just upgraded to iTunes 9.1 on a MacBook running OS 10.5.8 and can no longer connect to the store. Software Update shows no available updates and I'm at a loss. I tried the method suggested earlier involving changing the parental control options and then changing them back to no avail. Any other suggestions? Not sure what other info to provide, but I'll gladly provide what I can.

I have the same problem on two computers one, a Mac Pro, and another Win XP machine. Same exact issues. I cannot get to the iTunes store.

It's possible that Apple changes some ports or something regarding the connection to iTunes, but I have no idea how to determine that.

Hey Apple, how about a little help... I just bought 2 songs from Amazon because I could not get to iTunes!

I can't connect either since upgrading to 9.1. I'm running XP and everything was fine before. I've tried all the suggestions on the Apple support site to no avail. The diagnostic test says that it can connect to the itunes store, but when I try to open the store it tells me it could not connect and to make sure my network connection is active.

Any suggestions?
