Magic Mouse Packaging

Could anyone tell me how the Magic Mouse is packaged?

I just received one from amazon and it came in a plain cardboard box with the mouse in a plastic "bag" with no documentation of any kind.

Every Apple product I have ever received has come in aesthetic packaging and clearly is "factory sealed".

It seems as though I have received a "refurbished" mouse as the packaging is like the refurbished iPOD I once bought.

I am all in favor of "green" packaging but since I paid for a new mouse, I would like to receive a new mouse so I want to confirm that what I received is not a "new" factory sealed mouse.

Thanks.

Personally Helen, I never shop at Amazon for that very reason.

If you paid $69 at Amazon for a new one, the same price Apple sells them for then you should have just went to the Apple Store. If you paid anything less, then you probably have received a reconditioned, returned or used product.

On the other hand if you paid less and have the same warranty that Apple offers, then you may have gotten a good deal???

Some thoughts:

-Did you buy the MM from Amazon itself or from one of the third party sellers hosted on Amazon? If your MM is from Amazon, just email their Customer Service. They are usually very responsive. If you bought from a third party, it is very possible you received a used or refurbed mouse, especially if the price was a lot lower than Apple's suggested retail price.

-Have a look at Amazon's MM product page. There are a lot of unboxing pix (look for the "customer images") there.

-A price below suggested retail on products sold by Amazon itself is not necessarily an indication of a refurbed/used/grey market item. Amazon prices many items aggressively and usually indicates very clearly if a product is not brand new. In any case, AMZN has a very liberal return policy so you can always just send the MM back for a refund.

I bought it from amazon and paid the $69.00. It was from amazon itself and not one of their third party vendors.

I bought it from amazon because tax in Los Angeles is close to 10% so it's cheaper with free shipping from amazon and I've never had problems from them.

They are sending me another one and emailed me a free shipping to return the one I got.

But I wanted to make sure that I did in fact receive a refurbished one since I have never purchased any Apple product in the factory packaging that didn't have exquisite packaging because Jobs deliberately makes that part of the aesthetic of the product.

So to confirm I am correct that a "new" magic mouse would be in typical Apple packaging?

ETA -- If I had paid less for a refurbished mouse, I would expect this and if the mouse worked, I would be fine. My last iPOD was a refurbished one from the Apple store and I was happy to save money.

amazon is an authorized third party reseller.

From the picture it looks as though the mouse might be factory packaging but I have never encountered packaging quite like this. While I support green packaging, I don't understand how it is sold in a retail store since it is essentially a clear plastic case with nothing to indicate what it is.

Perhaps the packaging is a bulk option that allows Ebay to make a bigger profit selling them at the same MSRP as Apple and everyone else.

In the Apple Store the cute little plastic case is actually in a white Apple designer box that has a photo of the MM and the name. You do not see the plastic packaging until after you have made your purchase and you get home and open the box.

A friend made tiny strawflower arrangements to seal inside my MM's and also my iTouch's plastic cases. So now I have these little knick-knacks. Just something else to dust!

Thanks David -- That was my assumption -- that the plastic case was packed in a standard Apple box with graphics the way my iPODs and other Apple brand peripherals were packaged.

Since I paid for a new item, I feel I should be receiving an "unambiguously" new item.

It's not that I need the box but rather that the plain brown box just seemed to be the way refurbished Apple items are sold. It also was reminiscent of the package of the iPOD I received after the class action when one was just sent an iPOD at random with a new battery -- or packaging for laptops when they are sent back after a warranty repair -- just cardboard with the foam padding for the peripheral.

It's not as though they are saving on box size since the brown box was significantly larger than what I assume would be the factory sealed mouse box.
