24" iMac Screen Freezes since 10.6.3 update - pls help!

Eliminated the flicker on partly screen and inside startup Apple logo after this procedure. It seems that the sudden black or white screen phenoninen is caused by not matching video driver with hardware correctly. I want to say to Apple please tweak more these drivers for OSX Mavericks.

I've applied the kext fix since last week.

So far no freezes.

I am running SMCFan control and have tuened down the fans (to try to provoke a freeze) but still runs without any glitches.

The only thing that I've noticed change, is that flash videos in Safari sometimes says "Plugin failure", but running the videos in Opera browser it does not happen.

But I can live with that of course.

So far, no white screen, no stupid infinity beach ball, no stripes on screen, no lock-ups except for mouse pointer control, no black screens.

So it DOES seem that the kext fix DOES indeed fix something (at least in my case).

I ran Mountain Lion without problems with the Kext fix. I have updated to Mavericks and applied the fix and it now freezes when using Google Maps ...

Pacopeluca -- did you flip back one page on this blog, to page 102, and see where it says "STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE"? Please follow those instructions and you should be fine.

Hi, I also have freezing sreens in the past weeks. Tired of the problem I ended up here.

My system is Imac 20" mid 2007

Processor 2,4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Geheugen 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

Videokaart ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB

Software OS X 10.9 (13A603)

for me, i only had the freeze and powerbutton problem 2 or 3 times a day.

After a total wrong kext update I finally did the procedure previously described on some pages back.

So, keep my fingers crossed and hope that the problem is solved.

I was having regular and sudden black/grey screens and came across this thread. I tried resetting the SMC first but the issue continued. I then ran the Apple Hardware Test using my original OSX 10.5.4 Install disc which revealed no errros. I then tried the kext fix as described here using Kext Helper b7, installing the 3 appropriate kext files. It seemed to install successfully and then I rebooted.

However, a day later, the iMac froze again while in Firefox.

These are my latest Console messages at the time of the crash:

i guess not, but i found an article with a lot of kext info about 10.9.1 that might be of use for the geniuses on this forum that have helped us out thus far:

You don't need to re-apply the kext files for each and every single micro update from Apple.

I did my kext thing before 10.9.1 and have upgraded to 10.9.1 and no freezes or anything of the sort at all 🙂

I updated to 10.9.1 yesterday. I checked my kexts and the important replacement kexts were still in place. So the kext fix that I applied for 10.9.0 is still in place after this update. So far no problems! Just finding the finder a bit slow to populate! But that is yet another story!

That is what I thought when I upgraded from 10.6.2 to 10.6.3 several years ago and my machine began to freeze since 10.6.3 but it had no problems on 10.6.2. So the 10.6.3-update did change something.

Help, I can't get the kext files to install. I'm trying to install them with the system already at 10.9.1.

Am I doing something wrong?

Okay, I've been watching this thread for about a year. My iMac 7,1 has been running 10.6.7 fine. I decided until yesterday that I would just keep it there. Well, the new iPhones are wanting a newer version of iTunes and I needed to be running 10.6.8.

Well, I decided to upgrade to 10.6.8 and then the free upgrade to 10.9.1.

I have the Kext program and files. I have the 2400 video card. After removing the 3 files and trying to install the 1.6.6 files. The Kext Helper says everything installed fine. The Kext Helper will not quit and must be forced quit in order to restart the computer.

After restart, the older kext files are not loaded and the machine graphics would flixer really bad without the 10.9.1 files or the 1.6.6 kext files.

I was able to reapply the newer 10.9.1 video drivers, so the video runs like normal, but I'm still having freezing problems.
