New Macbook screw missing

Hello,

I feel kind of stupid asking this because its one screw however I ordered my macbook off the refurb store two weeks ago. I have just noticed there is a screw missing from the top right if your looking at the macbook bottom up, I would like to have a screw to put into the macbook to make sure the bottom is secure. I'm not sure the best way to go about getting one, help ?

Thanks

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.3)

You have a couple of other options. First, you could call Apple and they would offer to ship it to a repair facility. Second, there are a couple of vendors that sell parts, but a quick search only reveals the entire set of screws as an item <http://www.ifixit.com/Mac-Parts/MacBook-13%22-Unibody-%28Model-A1342%29#0-Scre ws>, and I am not sure that is the correct model. Using one of the repair web sites, it might be possible to determine what the exact spec of the missing screw is and just purchase the equivalent one.

+*I would say, that since it is refurbished, that is what you could expect.*+

Refurbs from Apple should not be missing any parts or exhibit any manufacturing issues. Refurbs also come with a full warranty. By all means, contact Apple and see if they'll send you the screw... but they don't tend to offer up parts. Even for something as small as that, they would have you send it in for the repair. The only thing I would potentially be concerned about is "why" the screw was missing. If it was just an oversight, that would be one thing, but if the threads in the hole were stripped, that would be a little more significant. Either way, your machine is fully covered... it's just that the later option would require that parts of the casing be replaced.

Yes, there is a way. You can call the Apple Support line, which is 1-800-MYAPPLE. They can get everything arranged for you. And what I meant before by saying 'that is what you would expect', I misunderstood. I thought that you purchased it from a different resale shop other than Apple directly. If you bought it from Apple, then that shouldn't have happened. My apologies. Anyway, if you also went into 'Support' on apple.com, then you can E-mail someone with your problem if that would be easier.

as if your logic board fails with in guarantee they may sight the missing screw as evidence of you opening your case and voiding your warrentee.

I don't want to launch this thread into a different direction, however, unless you can point to where in the Apple warranty agreement it says that opening the case voids the warranty, you shouldn't make a statement like that.
