opening .mix files

I used move to mac software to send pictures files to my new mac from my old dell. All the pictures that I had stored using Microsoft Picture It end in .mix. I cannot get these to open in Iphoto. Does anyone know how to get .mix files to open? Thanks.

Highlight one of the files and open the "Get Info" window.
Look at the "General" and see what "Kind:" says about the file. Also look at "Name & Extension:".
If the file extension ends with .jpg.mix then all you need is a tool to "rename" (because doing them all by hand is a chore).
You want to remove the .mix and leave the .jpg extension.
If the file name ends with .mix follow these steps:
Switch to the Finder and open a folder that has these files. Rename the .mix to .jpg and a dialog window will open asking to confirm.
If you have hundreds of files a batch rename is in order. Terminal can do it and other software is available to batch rename.

I did some more research on the PictureIt! mess. It will not be easy to convert the files and will require a PC.
Microsoft Image eXtensions (.mix) is a closed proprietary (non-standard) format used by Microsoft's PictureIt! and PhotoDraw. It is the default format for working on images in these programs.
The PC software can also save these files as .jpg format. I believe PhotoDraw is obsolete.
If you still have your old PC and the PicureIt! software it can convert the .mix to .jpg.
Here is a forum page (21 of them) that describe the problem and offer solutions:

My first post assumed the files were misnamed. Obviously I've been away from a PC for too long now.
