Not knowing the specifics of file management for FCP, I recently recorded some material using a JVC camera that stores on SD cards, then moved the files onto my laptop. Directory structure was maintained, except I mistakenly changed the name of the top most directory, thinking this would help keep track of them. FCP 7.0.2 has given me a “General Error” message when trying to import these files. Thinking I could restore what was changed, I looked inside one of the associated XML files and found a directory name that I think was the changed one. I renamed this directory again, and now FCP gives me a “File error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown” message. They play fine using VLC media player w/ the “treat as a pipe rather than as a file” setting. Any thoughts on how to rescue these files and open them in FCP would be most appreciated.

Sorry to have dropped the ball on this question - I got distracted by trying to solve the issue, with partial success, and haven't gotten back until now.
Chris, here are some of the specifics of my situation:
1) JVC GY-HM100 ver.1.050 camera
2) video = <Component uri="./CLPR/099
0074_01/099_007401.MP4" type="MP4" offset="0" dur="1476" fps="23.98p" aspectRatio="16:9" ch="2"videoType="MPEG2HD35
1920_1080MP@HL" audioType="LPCM16"/>
Indeed, as long as the correct "MEDIAPRO.XML" file is in the correct directory, I can recover the files/clips, and they can be brought into FCP via the log & transfer function.
This camera also will create MOV files/clips, and these open in FCP using the open function.
I've still got some mp4 files/clips that don't seem to have a mediapro.xml file in the directory two levels up listing all the clips created at the same time. I've even tried cutting & pasting a file together altering uri names, but there are obviously some specifics that I'm missing. But these same mp4 clips will play in VLC. Any thoughts?
