Adding Ram to iMac8,1
I know that I need
DDR2 SDRAM-800 MHz
what I'm not sure about is how much I can add, and what I need to buy to do that. The box that my computer came in has information on it saying that it can have up to 4GB of RAM. But I've read some things online that say my model can hold up to 6GB. Which is correct?
Another thing that I'm having trouble understanding is which Ram I buy. I know that there are two ports on the bottom where it's added, but will there be a card in there that I remove? Do I buy 2X2GB so that it's running 4GB or do I buy 1X2GB to add to what's already in my computer to make it 4GB?
what i understand now is that I have 2x1GB. Am I right about that, so that I'll have to replace them both?
Please someone just tell me what I should do to get the best out of my system. I recently purchased a 24" monitor for an extended desktop and M-Audio speakers and I'm getting tired of the spinning wheel whenever I'm running multiple applications and I switch.
Also, where would you suggest I buy from?
iMac8,1, Mac OS X (10.5.7)
