But seriously: I really can't believe this hasn't been taken care of by Apple!
I mean, come on, this really is basic stuff, I'd expect to be properly handled by a word processor...

Yvan, you wrote so many times "cross your fingers, and wait at least for iWork'09,10,11". I'm a little bit skeptical about improving this feature by apple, and probably you too.
So, would you suggest - in your personal opinion - the best writing tool for academic stuff? To me and maybe to everyone will post the same old sad issue?

Unless you work for Apple and actually have jurisdiction in moderating these forums, *_please don't tell people that should not tell Apple what features they want._* I agree with the poster who feels that a footnote (citations, endnotes) feature is essential to a word processor and Apple should include this feature as soon as possible. I have switched over everything but my brief writing to Pages as Pages is superior to Word, but Pages doesn't have a citation feature. Are you listening Apple?
We aren't Apple employees but end users like you (but with more experience of AppleLand).
If you aren't satisfied, use the dedicated channel :
Go to "Provide Pages Feedback" in the "Pages" menu, describe what you wish.
Then, cross your fingers, and wait at least for iWork'11
