Samsung CLX-3175FN Mac OSX - my experience with mac
I have just purchased a Samsung CLX-3175FN to use with two macbooks, a G4 mac mini, a G3 mac, on a time capsule based network.
I wanted to record my experience so people considering Multi-function colour laser printers could understand how the Samsung product stacks up.
1. Mac Logo on the box with universal binary logo. This means it's meant to work on the latest mac gear. I saw a lexmark MFC (not laser) and there was no logo, which meant I didn't look at it.
2. The installers are good. It shutdown a bunch of other applications, asked if the printer was networked or local. It seemed to know what it's doing. I had an Epson inkjet and there was about 20 sub installers that ran. None of that with this installer. Strangely though at the end of the installer it started up a 'set IP' applet (presumably to tell me the IP address of the machine). No explanation about why! I then had to reboot. Strangely again, no printer was created. I went into printer setup and added it (it appeared via bonjour) and then printed an email. instant success.
3. The print copy is not fantastic. I've been spoilt by office printers at work. The paper feels a little cooked, and there is ?bleed in the coloured text...
4. I went into Iphoto and printed a photo in contact sheet (didn't want to fill a whole sheet on a test print), and it's FANTASTIC. better than my inkjets...
5. SO QUIET. I would shut the door to the study on the inkjets. This thing just kicks it out and then does a nice little ding-a-ling sound when the job is finished.
I'll post more as I continue.
