Apr 4, 2010 5:46 AM in response to Kay Marczochby oYx,when i tried it the first time, it worked.
however, the behaviour returned the next time the mac was hibernated. it is not a bad behaviour, as i only plug in the magsafe when i want to use the mac anyway. however, it will be nice to have control.
is this behaviour consistent with other macbook pros out there? i don't recall this happening with l0.5.8. the mac has 10.6.3 now. -

No - my MBPro 15" / 10.6.3 does not wake up when power gets connected - resetting the SMC might be worth a try.
btw System Preferences -> Energy Saver -> Power Adapter
which options are selected? -
Apr 4, 2010 8:18 AM in response to Kay Marczochby oYx,tried resetting the SMC too, but it's still the same.
these are selected in the power adapter menu:
1. put hard disk to sleep..
2. wake for ethernet..
3. automatically reduce brightness..
you reckon the ethernet access has something to do with it? i could try. -
Apr 4, 2010 8:35 AM in response to oYxby Kay Marczoch,Had "Start up ... power failure" on my mind
anyway
Open the Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences > SystemConfiguration folder.
Trash both of the following files depending on the Energy Saver preferences to be reset:
com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
com.apple.AutoWake.plist -
Apr 4, 2010 9:19 AM in response to Kay Marczochby oYx,that seems to have done it. hope this one will stick.
what was your suspicion? i'm curious.
really appreciate your help here. -
Apr 4, 2010 4:52 PM in response to oYxby Kay Marczoch,My 1st suspicion was that "restart after power failure" feature.
Have had the same issue on an older PowerBook - but it I could correct it by resetting PRAM.
Keep me informed -
Apr 4, 2010 10:48 PM in response to Kay Marczochby oYx,hibernated the mac, and i returned to it 8 hours later, plugged in the magsafe and the behaviour returned.
i wonder if it has to do with the script i use to hibernate the mac, but i've always been using the script since leopard.
do shell script "pmset force -a hibernatemode 5"
do shell script "pmset sleepnow
i activate that script via quicksilver for deep hibernation when i'm away for longer periods. that lets me retain the functionality of shutting the lid for quick sleep mode, as that script does not set the sleep mode permanently. -
Apr 6, 2010 8:56 AM in response to oYxby Kay Marczoch,Do you use "secure virtual memory"?
If no try
sudo pmset force -a hibernatemode 1 -

Apr 6, 2010 9:06 AM in response to Kay Marczochby oYx,interesting. will try. how will using -b change the way the mac hibernates?
i've used the same script since leopard though, on the same mac. of course, something has probably changed somewhere, so it's worth a shot.
