Can you use iPad Pages to take notes in class?

I was wondering if iPad Pages could be used to mix typing and handwritten notes? So here is what I want, to be able to take notes in class by typing, and when the teacher starts drawing a graph/table/picture on the board, I can switch over to note mode and use a stylus or my finger to make the drawing and then switch back to typing mode. All this in the same document of course.

Can iPad Pages do it?

I just double check! And unfortunately, u can't draw with the pages application on the iPad! But u can take notes by typing even large documents just like u would do on a regular computer, what's even better Is that the iPad automatically save ur job as u are typing, so if u have to get out of the application u don't have to safe the document by clicking somewhere it just do it for u! Another example is that for some reason u are running out of battery don't worry, is already safe there and it only takes about 2 seconds to open, I mean, literally 2 secs. I think this application or the iPad itself is a great tool for taking notes in classes, which basically safe u a cot of space or time by taking out ur computer and start it up! Is just so simple and easy to use. Hope this info helps, any more questions about it just let me know!

I would sadly say you should wait for something else.

I myself take a ton of notes in meetings and academic situations and myself (and most of my coworkers) organize notes in the form of an outline..

Sadly, Pages for iPad does a very, very poor job at outlines. Not only is the interface cumbersome in general but it's super disappointing when you are using an external keyboard.

For example -- like any decent word processor (and Pages on the Mac) you can't use TAB or SHIFT TAB to modify the level of an item in our outline (example, turn a (b) after an (a) into an II to start a new section of your outline...

I don't know that I would argue they should have addressed this prior to all the other features in Pages v1 - but given the volume of people that use outlines to take notes and organize their thoughts this seems like a HUGE must have in an upcoming version of the software.

If your using outlines for notes, which I would argue most people don't. (I work in a large corporation and don't see almost anyone doing this) there are other companies that make outlined notes programs that are excellent I think the omnigroup does, and I hear they are porting many of their apps to iPad.. Write ot them and see if they are releasing theirs for ioad.

Apple does have an interest in letting others make money off the applications from third parties. It wouldn't be a very good platform for developers if the out of the box did everything. 🙂

The way outlining works is the arrows in the information button when selecting an item that can be outlined. So it's one more tap on the screen to advance it.
