Shipping - no delivery on April 3?

My understanding for pre-orders was that the iPad would be delivered on April 3. I have my shipping confirmation which shows that the device was picked up by FedEx on April 2, is now in Oakland at their facility (Apr. 3 am), and that delivery is April 6. Was anyone else under the impression that the devices were to be delivered on April 3?

See whether it comes later today.

I have read reports that UPS has double the normal numbers of drivers out today, and Apple and UPS intend to deliver today every iPad that was promised for April 3 delivery except rural areas where Saturday delivery is not regularly offered by UPS and addresses -- such as businesses -- which UPS knows not to be open today.

I have also read reports that some deliveries won't be attempted as promised, and we don't know how many that will be yet.

Apple is still using FedEx for many things. My iPad case has been shipped FedEx and is due to deliver next week according to FedEx's system. However, they use UPS for some things and apparently they made a deal with UPS for iPad launch and are using UPS almost exclusively for this.

I doubt my iPad will arrive today also. The last status from UPS shows my package is in San Antonio. It also indicates that as UPS says, "Destination Scan = The shipment has arrived at the local UPS facility responsible for final delivery." The problem is......San Antonio is almost 100 miles away from Austin where I live. I called UPS and they said that an attempt will be made to deliver the package today. So they are asking me to believe a driver from San Antonio will drive 100 miles to Austin to deliver my iPad.......yeah right.

I just got a call from UPS and said that they would not be able to deliver the Ipad to me today, but I could drive over to the warehouse and pick it up. I had to think about it for a bit, it is a two hour drive. I prefer FedEx for this reason and am disappointed in apple for choosing UPS for the IPad when whenever I have ordered any other apple product it comes FedEx. I guess I will wait until monday to get my IPad, and I didn't get a email saying it would not be delivered today.

I live in a somewhat rural area of southeast Georgia. UPS does deliver here on Saturdays (I called a couple of days ago to verify that.) We know our UPS driver and when he dropped mine off this morning, he told me they were delivering 35 iPads in the area today. So, you may get your iPad today, especially if they're making deliveries for more folks in your area.

I certainly was and still have hope of receiving it today despite the fact that it has been sitting at the UPS "Destination" facility in Philadelphia for the last 2.5 hours with no further sign of movement. For the most part, I've just about given up trying to figure out what is going on here. While the iPad in the hands of UPS in the local area, the "Dock" has apparently been shipped from China to Hong Kong by FedEx (estimated delivery next Thursday), the Apple iPad Case has yet to show up anywhere on DHl tracking, and my Dock-VGA connector just left Rutherford, NJ for points unknown with DHL. (I.e., if the latter is following the same route the wireless keyboard took three weeks ago, it is on its way to MD where it will be turned over to USPS for shipment back to NJ -- a total distance of about 600 miles for the 123 mile trip from point of origin to my home.)

I'm so confused... and frustrated!

The tracking info on UPS website said my package was at the local delivery center this am. I called UPS around 11 am to check on delivery status for today as my email from Apple said that it would be delivered today.UPS told me that it wouldn't be delivered until Monday, because the package had not been marked by Apple with "exception" for Saturday delivery. I called Apple, they said it was to be delivered Saturday and that mine was the first call concerning anything like this. I called back to UPS. They repeated the info that it would not deliver until Monday, because of the lack of "exception" by the shipper. Five minutes later, the UPS guy showed up at my front door with my package. I called UPS back. UPS said so sorry but didn't offer an explanation for the misinformation.
