Mail application won't stay open!!!!

I Know this is a late post but hopefully this will help someone .... my email app crashed today while I was trying to send an email and shutdown every time I tried to open it ..... The email app would pop up then about 10 seconds later would close and I'd be back on home screen ... So I went a searching on the web and came across this thread .... It did help me out cause nothing worked that was suggested but it did eliminate possibilities ( if something doesn't work it's a learning curve and now you know Hee!!! Hee!!! ) so what I did in the same section as above had stated but I went into mail accounts and shut off everything mail, contacts Ect Ect on all email accounts yahoo, iCloud, gmail Ect Ect ..... Then tried to open mail and it stayed on so I closed app then went back to settings turned everything back on ..... Reopened mail app and everything worked mail was loading as normal ,,,, below is a screen shot of what to shut off ,,, make sure there is nothing green .... Oh YA!!! Also shut off push notifications... Hope this will help someone out there and this way I didn't have to delete any accounts and reset up nor especially have to reset to factory setting and wipe out I pad then re-download it all ....

Open settings app... Go to mail,contacts,calendars... Turn off Load remote images... This deleted all my mail in all my boxes. Go to Mail app and open. Then if you want you can turn - Load Remote Images back on in Settings... That's it... Worked for me... This deleted all my Mail on iPad and started fresh. Hope this helps... Good Luck!!

WOW! This helped out tremendously! About a month ago my 5s stopped downloading emails on it's own. It also would take at least ten attempts to open and then close out the app. It would flash on the screen as if opening up and then not actually open. However, it would show it was "open" when I would go to close out of apps running in the background. FRUSTRATING! I've done hard restarts, backed it up, etc. I'm hoping the Load Remote Images was the problem.

What is the Load Remote Images for anyway?😕

Hi, I have the same problem. The ipad mail app looks like it's going to open and then closes (I have 5 mail accounts). None of these tricks helped. Do you have any other ideas - my iPhone and iMac are fine.

Welll ..... I'm gonna say it helped for the first two times I tried to open my email. Now it's back to pretending to open and not actually opening up. It doesn't download emails anymore either on the fly. It just doesn't do anything. If ti keep at it I can get it to open after about 10 tries .. but by then I'm ready to throw the thing across the room or go to my laptop. This is ridiculous!

So, I spent a long time on the phone with apple and seem to have got this sorted, so thought I should share it.

Make sure you have a backup either on iCloud or your computer

Then take a breath and take your ipad back to factory settings

Then restore your ipad with the last back up

This fixed it for me when I had tried everything else. It's a bit drastic but it works!

I was having the same problem, I deleted some pictures etc to free some memory it solved the problem straight away all above didn't work for me.
