Logic receives MIDI but Mainstage WON'T!

Sorry this is sort of a repost but not quite...
*(Midi port working in garageband but not in mainstage)*

Mainstage 2.1.1 doesn't receive any MIDI from my controller. Audio-MIDI setup shows everything is fine ("test MIDI setup" plays the little "****" sound).

I read some of the posts and tried it in 64-bit (No luck).Mainstage 2.1.1 and 2.0 just don't see ANY data! Then I tried Mainstage 1 it finally recognized MIDI!

So... Logic 9.1.1 and Mainstage 1 receive MIDI, but Mainstage 2 doesn't!

Really Wierd!

I was just gonna say the same exact thing.
I started having this issue with the last mainstage updates.

Your reply made me wondering about updates... "which MS version am I running ?" I just checked: 2.0.0...
My hardware setup works well with it... maybe I should forget about updates 🙂

BTW, how can it be that MS2 didn't get updated like every other Apple software does? Maybe it's because I didn't install the whole Logic package?

MainStage should update automatically. The current version is 2.1.1.

Have you checked in About This Mac to see if your controller is recognised by the computer? I had that as a minor hiccup a few months ago. If it is available you may have to check the MIDI/Audio set up screen to make sure that your controller has been recognised there.

My fault. I moved it in a subfolder by mistake... I put it back in the Application folder and it's been updated to 2.1.1. The memory management is quite improved.
The Kore interface seems to work well, but I don't have a MIDI keyboard with me right now. I'll check it out tomorrow.

this program may prove very useful in your troubleshooting

I've had similar problems when trying to run Logic and MainStage simultaneously. If you don't start MainStage FIRST, then Logic somehow "grabs" the midi feed and won't let MainStage receive midi (though other non-logic-based things seem to still see the midi data (such as the afore-mentioned midi-monitor).

A couple things to check:

Audio Midi Setup: make sure there's no goofy routings defined there. Make sure your midi device shows up there, test it, etc.

Try Making an entirely new account: based on the idea that *something user configurable* is horked up, try this. Go into the control panel and set up another account on the mac ... log into it, try to launch the updated MainStage ... if it works, then you definitely know it's something user-based and not system-based.

I tried your suggestion and the inspector didn't recognize the MIDI input at all. That's the problem... every other MIDI application recognizes the MIDI input from the PCR except the latest version of Mainstage.

Interestingly, though, I used the manual input selector in the Mainstage inspector window and it showed the IAC, and the PCR's A, B, & C buses! When I selected any, though, it still didn't receive any MIDI.

The Audio/MIDI setup utility recognizes it just fine, it just doesn't seem to get from the system inputs to Mainstage. Once again Logic is just fine, as are my other MIDI apps.

It's really strange! 😉

I tried aerol's suggestion, and although I have used MIDI monitor in the past, I didn't think it was MIDI getting to my basic Core MIDI system because the Aud/MIDI setup Util. recognizes and tests the input fine.

I went ahead and downloaded the latest MIDI monitor anyway, and all seemed perfect. It has to be a Mainstage, or Mainstage/Core MIDI issue.

Thanks! 🙂

Hi folks, did you find a solution to this issue? I've started to experience the same issue.

Mainstage v 2.0.0
Edirol FA-66
Edirol PCR-800 keyboard controller

Audio midi setup tells me FA-66 is there and working fine. I can open garageband and play away with no problem but mainstage just won't see the midi in.

I've not updated my version of mainstage as i had to roll back a while ago as i was getting memory spikes.

Any suggestions, this is driving me mad...........

Logic receives MIDI but Mainstage WON'T!
