i unboxed my iPad, activated, then downloaded some apps straight on the device. went back to sync about 3 hours ago and its about 75% done with the "Backing up" stage in iTunes. its definitely moving, just ever so slowly. reminds me of the slow backups in iPhone OS 2.0
anyone else seeing this?
it finally finished about 4.5 hours after it started. a bit ridiculous.
going to attempt to add some more content now, hopefully not going to take all night.
I'm having this exact same problem. But not on the first day. This is day two and I want to just sync my iPad and it's taking like 30+ minutes just for the backup part????
iPad won't charge while syncing with brand new iMac 27" and has been in the back up mode for over 3 hours. It backs up everytime connected to iMac even if nothing has been modified on the iPad. Is there a way to turn off backup so that it will just do a straight sync?
My iPad now backs up without ending. Forced and eject after 4 hours. No moving status line just the black and white moving "barber pole".
If backup wont end I can't download new content so I have stopped buying stuff from the store.
Add me to the list of users experiencing extremely long/unending backups. I went to bed last night and the backup appeared to be about 95% done after a few hours. Hoping Apple will fix this soon.
Add me to the list. Backup up takes at least an hour. Unpacked iPad, set it up and synced it on the first day with no problems. 2 days later my second sync and the backup is still running after 1 hour! I have almost zero information on it!
Two questions? Does your USB port support 2.0 spec? Do you have iTunes set to encrypt backups? Encrypting backups takes longer, but even a 32GB encrypted backup on a USB 2.0 port should not take more than 30 minutes.
My initial restore from my iPhone backup to my iPad took over an hour. I then added seven movies (~12GB) and synched the configuration changes I wanted on the iPad. That backup only took ~5 minutes on my 2.8GHz iMac with 4GB memory. I plugged directly into a USB jack on the back of the iMac.
Same here. It's almost 12 hours (!!!) behind, but the 'Backing up "iPad"' progress indicator is around 90%. Crap! I DO NOT need to back up my iPad. Does anybody know how to disable this option in iTunes on Windows XP Professional?
