Verizon MiFi with new iPad

I'm thinking about doing the same. Is there a noticeable lag if the MiFi is sleeping and the iPad wakes it up when it tries to connect? Thanks.

I'm using the mifi. Had it for work anyway. Seems peppy. Haven't notice much lag in connecting but haven't used it that much. Seems like a reasonable solution especially for those of us in non-3G Att areas 😟

Just used Skype with the miff. Works great outside, inside mixed results but what do you expect in NYC using 3G pushing out wifi. All in all amazing results.

I must say I'd like to use a MiFi but honestly... for the 60 per month price and not even getting unlimited data, and having to agree to a contract!!... I can't see going to that as the best solution...

The only plus you already mentioned...being able to have up to 5 devices online at once... but again that 60 per month cost is not unlimited from what I read...and a power user, especially one using 5 devices will eat up that 5gb of data fast!!

I am the first to agree that VZW is a better network than AT&T but that said...for a 30 data plan, no contract!! and unlimited data...the AT&T plan is not bad at all...unless you're in a non AT&T 3G area that is...

I'm using Mifi on my phone and it cost me 80 a month including 1000 mins and unlimited texts. Works wonderfully with my Ipad. Sitting outside and my phone is inside right now. I dont get 3g coverage in my are but most pages still load in a matter of seconds.

I went this route, as opposed to using the thinner ATT 3G network. I have an iPhone, and really dislike the service I have in the lower Hudson Valley of New York. The MiFi was so easy to configure and access, I'm still amazed I can carry a 3G broadband hotspot around in my pocket or bag! The iPad fetches mail as usual thru the MiFi and I can use it with my MacBook and iPhone.
I went for the 250MB plan ($39.99), as it's really a filler solution to bridge the Wi-Fi hotspot (there are nearly everywhere). Verizon told me I can do a temporary upgrade to the 5gig plan (if I can anticipate it) and then go back down to the 250MB plan as needed, all without resetting the contract.
So far an excellent solution, that isn't just tied to one device. A cool iPad on the much larger and more dependable 3G mobile network...who could ask for more?

Yeah I'm just worried about going over since I can watch netflix / download movies. But I guess Ill find out later.. Also can't wait to see the new gemeni tablet then I will know which to carry.

I'm lucky. Mines grandfathered in with no limit. I just got Skype for $2.95 a month. Now I have unlimited outgoing calls when I use the mifi If someone calls me on the cell I call them back on Skype so as not to use up my minutes. Friends say it actually sounds clearer. Also do the same on my iPhone. Looks pretty silly walking around with an iPad to your ear. 🙂

Since the 3G version of the iPad will be locked to AT&T's network, which doesn't even compare to the 3G coverage that Verizon has. iPad 3G owners would have to pay $30/mo for a data plan that can only be used on the iPad.

I would recommend getting a Verizon MiFi, which will provide better 3G coverage, on a more reliable 3G network. Not to mention you can connect up to 5 devices at a time to the MiFi.

Verizon is also misleading about their 3G coverage. Is there some cheerleader thing going on over at Verizon where people are told to come here and talk up the overpriced Mifi? I wouldn't exactly consider it a great deal to pay $60/month for 5 gb of data split between multiple devices and then you pay an additional $.05/mb if you go over the measly 5 gb of data.

The only other major GSM provider in the U.S. is TMobile. Their coverage area is smaller than either AT&T's or Verizon's. So, while technically it's not locked, if you're in the U.S., you don't have very many other options.

Sounds as if Verizon must have done something very bad to you. The MiFi is certainly not perfect, but it is an option, an option that some people are very happy with. Sprint cells a similar device. Don't know what their pricing is, though.

I was a Verizon customer for almost 15 years before switching. The last couple of years we were with Verizon, we became disgusted with their overpriced plans, poor selection of smartphones and misleading coverage maps.

I'm just wondering why people are making such a big deal about such an overpriced device with such a tiny data plan. I feel bad for the person using Mifi that makes the mistake of watching too many Netflix movies because they're stranded in an airport.

I have it and love it. No desire for 3G iPad.
