Share iBook on iPad Purchases

I have the same question. If I purchase a second iPad for a family member, can I share an iBooks once I am done reading it.

No, that is against the EULA you signed up to UNLESS that person is in your direct family and you share the same iTunes account.

But you knew that really and were hoping that the publishers would let ebooks just be passed around like paperbacks ....

Books bought at the Apple store are treated the same way that music and apps are. Any iPad that's registered on your iTunes account can use the book. No, you cannot give them to others - this is one of the downsides of eBooks - and it is true of every eBook reader. (The Nook sorta kinda but really doesn't let one share a book with friends and family. It is limited to 1 share that lasts for 2 weeks. In other words, my mother would get into the middle of the book and it would expire 🙂 )

Can I get some clarification? My husband, daughter, and I all have iPods and share an itunes account. We share the same music and load it on all of our ipods.

If we all get our own iPads, will be be able to share the same books the same way? If so, this is great. We often read the same books, so being able to share ebooks with an iPad makes this an even better purchase than a Kindle.

Yes, absolutely - you are all in the same family, using the same iTunes account. Go for it !

You do know that Kindle allows sharing among KIndles on the same Amazon account?

Dear Apple,

My needs are simple.

1) I need to be able to read an ebook on the iPad or iPhone. I read a lot on the iPhone right now using Kindle and B&N. The Kindle will sync on both so iBooks needs too!!

2) I need to be able to share books with friends. I can share B&N books with friends. When I get a good book, I want to share with with my circle of reading friends. I buy 40 to 50 books a year as it is. I love reading. And I love sharing.

Apple, please provide these two features!

It cannot be counted on for anybody at Apple to read these forum threads. This is a user to user area, so open letters to Apple are really not going to hit the mark. Please address your requests to Apple.

A) you are talking to other users here, not Apple. Use apple.com/feedback to talk to Apple

B) this is up to the book publishers not Apple

I find a website that you can backup books from ipad to computer, or share books from ibooks/ipad to other ipad owner. www.ibookstocomputer.com

How do you get an iBook on another iPad on the same account?

Good question. With everything else -- Apps, Music, Video I can simply synch what I want onto both iPads via iTunes, but iBooks doesn't synch via iTunes. Do I have to re-download the books individually on each iPad?
