Netgear Wireless Adapter Installation Problem

I bought a wireless adapter today and attempted to try and install it tonight. Everytime I click on autorun.exe (Because the installation menu does not autmatically appear when I put in the disk) it brings up message box saying to choose an application. What do I do? Please help.

G5, Mac OS X (10.4.4)

You might have bought one that isn't Mac compatible, that .exe file is for Windows® only.

What exact model is it?

It is a Netgear Wireless G USB Adapter WG111.
On the box it it works with Mac OS 10.3 and above.
It also says driver available at www.netgear.com. Do I have to download something from the site to get it to work on my Mac?

Yes, depending which version it it, WG111 v1, v2, or v3...

Then choose your OS version. Once you download it you'll get a file like...

NETGEAR wg111v3_MacOS10.4v1.0.0.0.zip

Double click on that to unzip it giving you a folder like...

NETGEAR wg111v3_MacOS10.4_Driver_1150_UI1.6.0

Open that folder & double click on the...

install.mpkg

I downloaded the driver to a thumb drive. I then put the thumb drive in my mac and downloaded it there. It told me to restart my computer which I did. However, it won't recognize the adapter and when I click on t netgear icon it does nothing...

Go to System Preferences>Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations, you should get a pop-up that says New Port detected, does that happen?

If so, drag that new port, likely en2... to the top of the list.
