Sleep/Wake button does not work

I haven't seen one other post about that issue yet, so I doubt it is a widespread issue. While it definitely does not improve your exact situation, there is nothing to signify a quality control issue.

I'm having the same problem! I can't put the iPad in sleep mode, power cycle or take screenshots. I have tried activating the sleep/wake button with the side lock in both on and off positions. Nothing. Please help!!

Update: It turned out that my device actually did have a defective hard key. I made an appointment with the Genius Bar and they verified this and replaced my unit with a brand new iPad in less than 15 minutes. Problem solved and I'm very happy both with the device and with the service I received from Apple!

I have the same issue, will be taking it to the apple store tomorrow 🙂 At least it's not just me. Although, I've been quite unluckly lately, I'm still going to stick with Apple. I had a defective iPhone 4 and now a defective iPad 2 😟.
