Charging iPad while Syncing with iTunes?

I can't charge my iPad using my USB2.0 port on my old, slow (1.6) iMac G5, I have to do my syncing and charging separately.

Is there a solution for this problem, like maybe a USB2.0 hub (I have one, but it doesn't work through the hub either, the hub is powered, so I thought it would, but maybe it's just too old).

When I am syncing to my MacBook Pro (late 2007) the iPad shows Not Charging. My machine's USB port apparently doesn't supply enough power. There's a support article on this - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4060. Good news is my iPad charged when it completed syncing and went to sleep. My Kensington 7 port USB hub doesn't supply enough power either. Hopefully sells or will sell a beefier USB Hub.

Solutions as I understand them 1) sync then put iPad to sleep and let it charge; 2) sync then plug in to iPads power adapter; 3) buy a newer computer - after testing it at the store of course. (Hmm. Maybe that was Steve's secret plan to boost sales. :-); find a beefier hub - and share the manufacture and model # with the rest of us.
