Q: Intermittent WiFi

For some reason the iPad stops connecting to the internet even though it reports a strong wireless connection. If I restart it, it works fine. I have not been able to determine what causes it to stop working, but I suspect either the sync process, or maybe an iPhone app. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

You describe my situation exactly except that I have a Verizon router. My touch works perfectly w/o any of this intermittent connectivity issues. This really blows my impression of apple!

    User level testing, if useful:

With backlight to the lowest connected to WiFi non-stop to Pandora radio, my iPad stays connected, no problems. Same with full power to backlighting.

With backlight set anywhere low, WiFi drops randomly ( Pandora off) and restarts erratically asking at times for new new password, forgots WiFi settings, unless full bacllight is chosen via tab to right..which immediately restores WiFi.

Connected as sole device to FIOS network or mixed home B & G computers appears not to be relevant to errors in iPad Wifi.

As reported elsewhere, the most workable solution for a mixed B & G network using the standard FIOS router with WEB enabled is to switch from 64 to 128 bit. iPad stays connected to WiFi in low backlight or full backlight enabled.

I've had similar problems and intermittent. Only occurred at home, never at a public hotspot. Turned out to be problems with my U-Verse broadband service.
I don't know why my PowerBook is much more tolerant of flaky wifi because it wasn't effected while my iPad was terrible.
I had AT&T reset and clean up line and it's worked great ever since.

I am having IPad wifi problems. So much so that I had to post this response using my Macbook Pro. I have had the wifi drop 12 times in 3 hours and over 100 times since I bought it. I have been able to bring the wifi back by lowering that raising the screen brightness, I even posted a youtube video on my findings. But this is getting frustrating. Sorry Steve I am returning my Ipad, its not ready for prime time. By the way I have been using Macs since 1984 and yes I liked the Newton but the IPad has me ******. For reference my 13 in Macbook Pro, 27 iMac, IPhone 3GS, Dell 1510 and Dell Mini 9 all have no wifi problems.

I solved my WiFi dropping problem. Other people may have the same issue, so here's what I did. My iPad WiFi signal is strong, and other devices (laptop, iPod Touch) work fine. But for the first three days after I bought it, my iPad WiFi would last for 1-5 minutes max. It would suddenly drop for no apparent reason.

    1. I used the iPad menu to re-set the network settings.
    2. I turned WiFi on my iPod Touch OFF, in case there was a conflict of some kind.
    3. When I did the above, the iPad prompted me for a WiFi password. I realized I had typed in the WEP key with lower-case letters, and it may be case sensitive. I re-entered the WEP key with upper-case letters, and my iPad has been solidly connected to the internet for six hours, without a single drop - something it has not been able to do once since I bought it three days ago.

I don't know whether 1, 2 or 3, or all of them, fixed the issue, but it seems fixed now.

I'm glad your problem was resolved! Mine wasn't and after reading all the blogs and trying the various solutions I RETURNED THE IPAD TO APPLE. I just am angry that after spending $700 I have to research how to make this work when my iTouch and other devices work perfectly. I have been hoping that Apple would offer a solution but by now am becoming convinced that they are writing off users with problems. That's really too bacd as I am now becoming really turned off on Apple. The two clerks I spoke with yesterday basically said "Whta problem?" So it's unlikely I'll buy Apple again. This has been a horrible experience and I find Apple's vaunted reputation to be a myth.

Hi, my name is Bill.....and I have a iPad Wi-Fi connection problem.

All the "fixes" seem to point to changing router configuration or changing to a different router. That's an option if its YOUR router...but how about when your traveling as I was over the weekend. When your in your hotel and the Wi-Fi keeps disconnecting...try calling the front desk and ask them to rename the SSID or change the "N" network to a different channel...RIGHT...good luck with that!

Now for plan "B".....fire up the Verizon Mi-Fi and forget about the hotel Wi-Fi...great for a few minutes...then up pops the "Join Network" box...Ugggggg!!!

    Plan "C"..........?????????

Come on Apple...let us know how your testing is going and please provide a fix.

    Bill

Try MAC address filtering, that worked fine for me.

    Environment:
    o iPad 64GB WiFi Version 4.2.1 Model MC497B
    o Netgear WAG102, firmware v2.0.16 - Tried 11a with and without security, 11g with WPA/WPA2 /PSK
o No other wireless networks configured on the iPad and no conflicting SSIDs, etc.
o Laptops, other wireless devices work fine
    o No Ipod Touches nearby

    Symptoms:
o Even though I connect to the Wifi, Safari reports "not connected to internet".
I can load webpages by IP address but not by hostname (error as above). Using utilities, I can ping ip addresses, but not resolve hostnames.
o Works fine at the Apple Store

    *Actions Tried:*
o RESET Device - Worked once, but not subsequently
o Reset NEtwork Settings - Worked once, but not subsequently
o New IPAD from Apple Store - Took it home and before I restored anything, tried to connect. No luck. The new one did connect in the apple store.

Mgoblue1, Just curious if the iPad has to be set at anything specific under wifi in settings. I also have att for home internet and have had issues with signal with all computers, iPods and Ipad. I use my cell phone as a hot spot when I am out and about and never have any issues with the Ipad but as soon as I get home I get the message saying I have no wifi connection.

Seems like everyone is having the same problem. But I do not see a fix anywhere.  Is there one out there?  Where can we find apples response to this?
