Can I print from iPad?

Despite the title, this is a summary of the issues.

The answer is however No - the iPad is not a computer replacement.

Someone needs to develop an app that creates an "e-pass" so the airlines can scan our boarding pass directly from our iPad. It should be able to create a boarding pass for any airline.

Its always 'someone' has to do something - if you think it might be commercially attractive then feel free to develop one. But bear in mind that modern airlines are already moving to snowflake codes on smartphones, doing away with the need for paper boarding passes. Printing is no longer needed .....

and most importantly - airplane boarding passes.

OK, maybe you need to print in the short term, but it won't be long before all airlines support this kind of thing.

Yeah after 75 posts you know what you are talking about - afraid you are mistaken. Threads are recommended for pulling by Level 3 and 4 posters who recommend deletion and thats it. No others are read. They have better things to do.

Why print a boarding pass? Well because the "security person" almost dropped my iPhone onto the ceramic floor when he was looking at my "electronic boarding pass". If the iPhone had hit the floor and broke who do you think would have been out of pocket? Not the security service at Calgary Airport and if they would have paid it would have taken me months if not years to recover the cost. After that incident I realized that they were not really ready for electronic boarding passes so now to be safe i print mine as they can't break a piece of paper.

Actually, a day after the iPad is released... they're reading every word! 😉

If you go to the App Store and do a search on print you will find that, "There's an app for that!"

You will get a page or two. Probably the best is PrintCentral for US$9.99.

Anybody ever heard of PrintCentral? Supposedly (and I haven't really done any research on it) it allows printing from iPad and iPhone/Touch.

Why would you pay 9.99 for an app that should be integrated into the OS to begin with?

Bar code laser scanners will not be able to scan from an LCD screen with a refresh rate of any kind...

Just like a human getting a tattoo of a bar code...even if it was a true match to a real one it won't scan that kind of surface with any type of accuracy at all.

There is an app "PRint N Share" that allows printing...HOWEVER, it is not meant to work on a public or company printer... you need admin rights to download a software file from that developer and then while it's running on the computer you can print... as stated, iPad is not a computer replacement and although it can do great things, it will not meet 100% of the same needs as a MAC desktop.

I'm not sure about the technicalities but I did it a couple of weeks ago with Olympic Air at Athens airport - so it does work.
