Samba with extended attributes

Since i've updated my macbook to 10.6.3 any file that has extended attributes will not transfer via samba.

If I try and transer a single file from my macbook (10.6.3) to a samba share it will transfer to 100% then spit the message "The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items." then subsequently delete the file on the share.

If I try and transfer the file via the Terminal:
192-168-1-51:Downloads elliot$ cp /Users/elliot/Downloads/sg8demo_mac.dmg /Volumes/storage-1
cp: /Users/elliot/Downloads/sg8demo_mac.dmg: could not copy extended attributes to /Volumes/storage-1/sg8demo_mac.dmg: Operation not permitted

If I transfer the exact same file from my mac pro (10.6.2) to the same folder on the samba share it transfers without a problem.

There is no problem for either computer when transferring files from the samba share, all attributes are left intact.

If I manually delete the xattrs for the file I wish to transfer then my macbook (10.6.3) transfers it OK. As I haven't change anything on the server (which is where the samba share is) and the mac pro has been working and continues to work I can only assume the problem is when I updated to 10.6.3 on my laptop.

I've tried calling apple technical support, he didn't understand what I was talking about.

Any ideas? Thanks

Hi - I started getting the same problem a few days ago. The problem is that I have changed a few things at once so I can't isolate the cause!

One thing I did was to change permissions so that another user of my iMac could read/write all of my documents. I think this results in ACL's being activated (not sure though). The other thing I did was to run the command "defaults write com.apple.desktopservices DSDontWriteNetworkStores true" because I was sick of the Mac leaving a hidden file called .DS_Store in every shared folder that I visited on the Samba shares.

Now I seem to have permissions problems copying local files to the Samba share and ls -le@ shows "com.apple.FinderInfo".

I'm going to try a few more things to see if I can narrow down the problem.

I think you will have to look on the server side. I just copied a file with extended attributes to a Samba server and it worked fine. The attributes are still there, no less. I don't know if this particular server is Linux or Windows. Regardless, the problem doesn't seem to be on the client side.
