multiple pages of text on table in Pages problem

I am using Pages '09 and am new to MAC...
Trying to compare two pieces of text side-by-side in a table in Pages, however, can only view text on first page and although the text continues in the table's cell it does not continue (at least not viewable) on the succeeding pages.
Does anyone have experience with this problem? This is a basic function in MS Word but in two One-to-One Apple Store sessions no one can figure out the answer to this question.
Thanks!

With the Table selected, go to the Wrap Inspector and set the Inline Object Placement option. This will make the table continue on the next page, but won't get you the ultimate objective of being able to compare the content of two tables side by side.

To do that, you'd be better off copying both table to a Numbers document and doing the comparison there, where you don't have to necessarily deal with page boundaries. That is to say you have an option to not have page boundaries by turning off Print View, and you can freely juxtaposition the tables.

A tortuous way to accomplish this in Pages is to begin with a Page Layout Template and create two Text Boxes side by side on the first page. Then copy this page thumbnail, thus creating a second page with two side by side text boxes. Now link the first page's left box to the second page's left box and the first page's right box with the second page's right box. Now double click in the top left box and insert one table, then double click in the first page's right box and insert the other table there. If this isn't enough vertical space for the tables, continue adding pages and linking boxes.

Thanks but the fact is MAC is way behind MS when it comes to word processing and spreadsheets. Text edit, Pages and Numbers are HORRIBLE programs that leave much to be desired. I wish I would have never purchased a MAC, as it can not do the simplest functions that a $250 PC can do.

Numbers will not compare text the way I want (the way Word does). Even at the Apple store they say "oh, if you're using those programs the only way to go is MS Office because iWorks is just a basic little feature". I wish the sales rep would have told me that.

It may not be too late to take it all back to your Apple store. I think you're off base, but you certainly have a right to your opinion. I wish you well.
