iPod Classic 120gb needs your help to awake from dead! Critical condition!!
Hi Everybody,
I have a iPod classic, that stopped to work some weeks ago. It just won't show any sign of life anymore and can't reset it (by pushing the choice-button and menu for 10sek.)
I still tried to reset it and plugged it onto my windows and it showed up as a DFU-Device, but still windows couldn't install it.
On my Mac iTunes recognizes it, but is "waiting for the iPod" for hours. Some time it demands to reconnect the ipod and gives error-codes like "2005" and "1601"
On windows i tried the iPod-recovery tool but it says, that it doesn't support this type of iPod (even it should).
Neither does the disk utility of mac nor windows recognize the ipod.
Is the iPod now completely dead and "non-useable", or is there still a solution to incite it?
having exactly the same problem since last week. Single sign of life: pushing choice+menu for 10sec while connected (to mac) brings iTunes to life but after a minute "error 1601" shows up. Windows version of iTunes at least shows detailled report:
seems like I am unable to edit my recent post... anyway here is what Mac OSX's system.log reports when my "dead" iPod is plugged in:
01:50:16 macbook kernel[0]: IOUSBInterface: family specific matching fails
01:50:17 macbook kernel[0]: USBF: 10559.282 [0x3e55000] The IOUSBFamily is having trouble enumerating a USB device that has been plugged in. It will keep retrying. (Port 3 of hub @ location: 0xfd000000)
01:50:21 macbook kernel[0]: USBF: 10562.918 [0x3e55000] The IOUSBFamily was not able to enumerate a device.
yes, i get similar results as you do. Well, still don't have any solution for this problem. Have posted it on other forums too, but no answer yet. Hopefully we'll soon get on.
I've send mine in for repair now to a small repair shop - they will give an estimate of costs at no charge. Hopefully they will not ask for a fixed price 140€ blackmail like someone else does... I can let you know in about ten days.
Bad news... technical support can't get any reaction from the ipod either. it's practically DEAD. seems to be a main board defect. would be 129€ for parts + 29€ installation... even more than apple's global 140€... AAAAARGHHHHHH!!!
