My first sync went fine and was fast. I then noticed a few hours later that when I connected my iPad it took about 5 minutes before it began to sync with iTunes. iTunes completely freezes (spinning ball), then the iPad will begin to sync, then it appears the iPad is still syncing but the progress bar is also frozen. I have to leave the iPad alone for almost a half hour for it to do a full sync. I even restored it to factory settings and still have the same problem. Any ideas? iTunes, OS X is all up to date.
I'm experiencing something similar, but my sync never went fine, not even the first one. When I connect the iPad it freezes up iTunes for 2-3 minutes then it syncs and after the sync it freezes again for 2-3 minutes. Music and Apps seem to sync over to the iPad but videos just don't show up on the device. Tried it on both my Mac Pro and Mac Mini. If anybody has any suggestions as to what the problem might be I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
I am having the exact same problem. I'm syncing the latest version of Itunes on a brand spanking new MacBook Pro 15" with the i7 . The problem is getting worse actually.
I also am having the exact same issue on a Windows machine. Not only will iTunes freeze, but other applications running will also freeze. Very frustrating. Literally stuck on backing up iPad for over 30 minutes without moving a mm. Then when you break the sync link, movies, music, possibly even apps come up missing on the pc. This is bad.
I was synching on my Mac Book Pro, and when I came back after a few hours the IPad was locked up and cannot get to unlock. The screen shows the small appe with the whel inside and not moving.
I am having the same problem on a new MBP -- when I plug in the iPad, iTunes doesn't recognize it and won't even become visible from the dock. I right click on the icon in the dock and it shows "application not responding." If I force quit iTunes, unplug and then re-plug in the the iPad, iTunes opens and starts to sync, but then freezes again.
Anyone have a solution or hear back from any Apple folks?
I had the same problem as well, and while my problem may not be exactly yours, I think I know how to fix it for everyone!
First, create a new user and log into it. See if iTunes will connect to your iPad without issue. If you can see your iPad and you don't get freezing, it's an issue in your home folder. Unplug your iPad, log out of the new user, and log back into your account. Don't open anything. Go to your iTunes plugins folder, located in Home>Library>iTunes>iTunes Plug-ins. If there's anything in there, move them to your desktop, launch iTunes, and see if you can sync. If you can sync, it was an issue with one of those plug-ins.
In my case, the plug-in which caused all the trouble was iTonerSupport. You may have another incompatible plug-in, so experiment.
If you find that the problem is plug-in related, quit iTunes and add one plug-in back into the folder. If you can still sync with that plug-in, quit iTunes and add the next. Keep adding, opening iTunes, then quitting and doing all that again until you find the culprit.
We appreciate everybody's patience on the matter. Unfortunately we had no idea there would be a problem until we had an iPad in our hands. We do have it fixed internally with an update coming ASAP.
Just wanted to let you know that we released [iToner 2.0.5|http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/dl/itoner]. This free update resolves the issue of iTunes hanging when an iPad is connected. Thank you for your patience 🙂
WOW!!! Worked for me, too!! Nice work. Geez, how did you ever figure that one out. I'm a total techie and I never would have thought to look into my Plugins lol. Thanks a lot man! Great fix!!!!
I took my iPad and laptop to the genius part of local apple store. Was told my laptop wasn't powerful enough. Mmmmmmm it's a Top line Vaio! That was last week.
Seems they don't use you help. I developed a solution where I disable my Vaio wifi before connecting the iPad allow it to sync (few seconds) and then switch back on the wifi. no idea why it works but it did for me.
