Apple Composite AV cable doesn't work with my iPhone 3G (3.1.3)

You have to use the Apple Component AV cable (ML128LL/B). It works fine with my iPhone 3GS, frameware 3.1.3

The Apple Composite AV Cable and Component AV Cable only deliver video from Apple Apps (iPod, Mail, Youtube, Photos, Messages and Safari). The cables contain a chip for copyright reasons. When connected, the AV Cable will appear in Settings> General> About.

Using av cable(apple) iPod in iPhone 3GS just freezes and won't play.
Disconnect the AV cable(apple) normal usage possible.
What's wrong?

Plug in my newly purchased Composite to my 3gs... video stops playing. Unplug and it plays.

Just so you know, when the cable is plugged into your device, the video STOPS playing on your device. You can still hit the play, pause, forward and back buttons, but the video image becomes a still frame. It does, however, still play OUT through the cable.

I used the original Apple composite AV cable with my iPhone 3G (OS 3.1.3) for a while and it worked fine for video playback in the iPod app. But after upgrading my iPhone 3G to iOS4 the cable stopped working. Video on my TV remains black and is shown on the iPhone's screen instead of the TV, and sometimes the iPhone tells me that this accessory is not designed to work with this iPhone. What did Apple do? Is there anyone who can confirm this change in behavior? Apple still recommends this cable in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1454?viewlocale=en_US
