Aperture 2 - Moving it all from one HD to another.

Hi Everyone,
I am currently using a 120GB external HD to hold all of my images and unless that HD is connected, Aperture won't find the library.
My question is: How can I move or duplicate all that information/images onto a new larger external HD without having referencing, master, metadata problems etc?
Basically I want the new HD to work as the old smaller HD has been doing.

Thanks,
John

It is easy but different depending on whether your library has referenced images or not.

If it does not you simply copy the library. If it does you can either copy the entire folder tree to the new HD and then make sure you rename the volume name of the new drive the exact same thing as the old HD (obviously you need to rename the old one first) or...

use relocate masters on all of your referenced images and relocate them to the new drive. After than just copy the library to the new drive or your internal or wherever. The library is location independent the referenced files are path dependent.

You can do that - or you can select all the images in your library and use the subfolder format options to have Aperture create a folder hierarchy, instead of going project by project. Or as I suggested you can just copy all the files and the tree as it exists - remove your old HD from the system and rename the new HD to be the same as the old HD volume name and test it w/0 affecting your old HD and it's structure at all.

I have been trying to move my aperture library from one macbook pro to a newer macbook pro. I have tried several ways of doing it. First, I upgraded the aperture on Mac-1 from 1.0 to 3.0. I have saved a copy of the Mac-1 aperture library to an external harddrive (iomega) shared folder. When I try to access the library from Mac-2, I can not access the library due to permissions issues. I have tried several times to change the permissions in the library using Mac-1 on the eternal harddrive to allow read/write access to everyone but it doesn't save.

I have also tried exporting the library and hooking the two computers up using the firewire but I have not been successful.

I could really use some help with the proper way of moving my library from Mac-1 to Mac-2. I only want to use Mac-2 for all my photos. So, I want to eventually delete the library from the Mac-1 harddrive.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
