rebuild Aperture 2 library before import to Ap3

I have been running the Ap3 trial for a few days and am ready to buy the upgrade. I renamed Ap2 before installing the Ap3 trial. When I go to open Ap2 after closing Ap3, I get the following Warning:

The library in “/Users/jamesbourret/Pictures/Aperture 3 Trial Library.aplibrary” cannot be loaded because it is from a newer version of Aperture.
I am given no choice but to cancel the launch of Ap2.

I know that I cannot open the Aperture 2 library in Ap3, so how can I rebuild the Ap2 library as suggested in the install notes?

+1.

Aperture 3 and Aperture 2 use the Same preferences file, which can be an issue if you run them both on the same machines.

Everytime you open one version or the other, they are going to be reading the previously saved preferences which can cause issues.

In this instance, aperture 2 is trying to open the "last opened" aperture library which happens to be the aperture 3 library...

...On a mac pro running 64 bit snow leopard? Most definitely.

If you want to be safe with the upgrade, create a Blank aperture 3 library, and use File->Import Library to import your aperture 2 library. This will leave the old version in tact instead of "upgrading it". You can do this with the aperture 3 trial actually.

If you have a separate disk to use, it would be smart (and faster) to copy the aperture 2 library to another drive than the aperture 3 library you are importing too. If you don't use referenced masters, you may want to consider it, as this will reduce your library size dramatically, enough to the point that you can end up with a 10GB library for about 25000 images - which makes it very easy to move and copy the library to new locations. (It also lets you have a v2 library and a v3 library without needing to duplicate all the masters).
