No one goes home tonight until the WiFi issue is fixed

I wouldn't let anyone go home tonight at Apple until this WiFi problem has been licked. Let's see some action here folks.

Anyone having any luck with the Genuis bar besides being given a new iPad with the same issues as old?

I have an ATT UVerse router. How do I tell if it is a G or N Router? Also - how do I tell how fast i am connected on it? My IPad is connecting fine here at the house and outside on the porch. It seems as fast as my IMac. But still - I would like to know how to check these things. Could someone point me in the right direction?

FWIW - my connection has been fine. Sometimes the signal strength bars drop - but the pages all still load quickly. I was at the mall and it connected to the Apple store and Barnes and Noble WIFI networks with no problem at all.

Thanks for any info on checking my connection speeds.

Thanks so much for the info guys. I did install the speedtest app. I got 5433kbps on the download and 930 on the upload. Is that good? That was sitting right in front of the router. It was slower outside on the porch - more like 4500 or so on the download. So how do those numbers stack up??

Thanks again for the information!

See if anything here helps: iPad- Does not automatically rejoin known Wi-Fi networks.

Apple is aware of the WiFi issues. I would expect a solution will evolve shortly.

You do, do you?

We folks who've had our wireless signals cut by over 2/3 due to the 3.x firmwares are still waiting for a fix. I suppose we've stopped evolving, have we?

Why has there been no wifi fix for iphones and ipod touches? You folks with ipads - don't hold your breath. Apple has no idea what's wrong, nor do they care. They've got your money now.

Graham,

If that's true, then wouldn't the issue be fixed if we turned off N and made the router G only? I've done that and still have the same issue.

Wouldn't I have the same tendencies using a different computer? I have a PC desktop, two PC laptops, a Macbook... heck, even my Xbox 360, PS3, and PSP Go don't have issues talking to the router.

I've tried every trick that I can find on these forums or think of myself. None of them fix my particular problem (wi-fi goes into standby mode and will not re-connect until I turn it off and on). I've tried it at multiple locations, one of which only had a B&G router.

I'm not getting on your case, Graham... but it's not an issue with the routers.

Here's all that I've tried:
1. Changed router from B&G&N to G only.
2. Changed each of the router's security settings (unprotected, WPA, WEP).
3. Changed the router's channel from 11 to others.
4. Changed the iPad from DHCP to static IP.
5. Sat right next to the router.
6. Changed the brightness to the maximum.
7. Checked the router and all other devices for a possible IP address conflict.
8. Had the iPad switched at the Genius Bar for another device.
9. Reset the iPad networking using the iPad.
10. Reset the iPad to factory defaults using the iPad.
11. Reset the iPad to factory defaults using iTunes.
12. Tried to wake the iPad up using only the top button instead of the Home button.
13. Changed the proxy from NONE to AUTO.
14. Tried at two locations with two different brands of routers.

The only thing that gets it to talk on the wi-fi again is to turn it all the way off and back on. Once it goes into some kind of standby mode, it will not come back. The Genius Bar couldn't tell me anything I haven't tried. So please tell me what else I can do.

Hello -----

I bought an iPad when my Apple Store opened on Apr. 5.

When I got the iPad home, it would not connect to the community WIFI provided by my apartment complex. I must say that this WIFI connection has worked admirably for more than three years and continues to connected easily and robustly to my Intel iMac to this day. My WIFI source works fine (I'm sending this message via THAT connection).

Additionally, my community regularly shows over a dozen active websites in my vicinity. My iPad can only "see" two or three of them, and those tend to appear and disappear over a short span of time.

My feeling is NOT that the iPad WIFI connection does not work, but that it only works at VERY close range.

I know that my iPad WIFI works because I took it to the Genius Bar yesterday morning. As I sat OUTSIDE the Apple store, the iPad connected to the Apple supplied signal quite easily. In the hour that I waited to talk to a Genius, the iPad worked FLAWLESSLY. (It's a beautiful device when it works)

The Geniuses where sympathetic that I didn't have a STRONGER WIFI source, but offered no help at making my iPad work with my existing, otherwise functional, home connection.

So as others have said here, the iPad is a delightful device, BUT there is little to guarantee that it will link to your existing home WIFI source.

This is VERY disappointing and needs to be resolved if Apple desires this product to survive. They really need to resolve this before they alienate the enthusiastic Apple loyalists that have shown confidence in this product.
