cannot start Bonjour Service - Error Code 10014

Hey,

I have a big problem.
Yesterday I wanted to upgrade iTunes to the newest version, but during installation the update manager said that he cannot start the Bonjour Service. I tried to Start it out of the Services Dialog, but it failed too.
The following message appeared (sry it's the german version):
+"Bonjour Service auf Lokaler Computer konnte nicht gestartet werden. Weitere Informationen finden Sie im Systemereignisprotokoll. Setzen Sie sich mit dem Dritthersteller in Verbindung, wenn es sich um einen Nicht-Microsoft-Dienst handelt. Beziehen Sie sich auf den diestspezifischen Fehlercode 10014."+

I hope you can help me with this problem.

I am having the same problem on my XP laptop. I tried starting the service manually, uninstalling and reinsatalling Bonjour, even reinstalled iTunes in hope it would repair, but iTunes indicates a newer veriosn of Bonjour has already been loaded. "Bonjour Service is not available" is the error message when trying to launch Bonjour Print Services.

if you have more than one computer or a friend that has not upgraded. rename files in the c:\program files\bonjour directory and then copy the same files from a nother computer running the older version of bonjour. Then start the service.

It worked on my xp sp3 machine using files from my vista machine that had not been upgraded. This should get bonjour to start but may not solve all problems.

What did not work.
uninstall bonjour, install bonjour for windows.
upgrade
repair bonjour
reinstall itunes

After reading through a lot of blogs about this Bonjour error I found a solution to Install iTunes without the $#%@W# Bonjour:

What I did previously:

uninstalled itunes and all apple programs, tried to re-install and kept getting error message.

This worked for me

To install itunes with quicktime only:
1.) Download the itunes setup exe file. (Save to a file on your desktop)
2.) Download 7-zip or winrar, and install.
3.) Right click the exe file and extract the files.
4.) Delete the following files:
-AppleMobileDeviceSupport
-AppleSoftwareUpdate
-Bonjour
-MobileMe
5.) Open a command prompt window and browse to the folder with the extracted files.
6.) Type itunes.msi /passive

And voila! you have the updated iTunes

If you need Bonjour go here:

9.x update broke Bonjour on my Windows 7 installs, and I have been tearing my hair out, too.

This approach also helped me get my Bonjour working again:

- Uninstall all versions of Bonjour or Bonjour Printer Services (or similar)
- Re-download and re-install iTunes, selecting the "Repair" option
- Download and install the version of Bonjour linked above (the one hosted on CNet)

It may be worth noting that, whenever possible, I right-clicked and selected "Run as administrator" instead of just running it and waiting for the UAC prompts.

Best of British!

A slightly less-stressed Alex :o)
