Very Slow iPad Backup/Sync

I have an ipad 2 with no applications yet added. I only put added less than 1 gb of music and a few photos. Everytime I try to back up it says it will take around 6 or 7 hours and then after a couple of hours it times out. The problem has to be with the Apple server.

I just got a new iPad and was set up to push some 4,500 songs out to it. I started synching and I was getting 1 song every 10-15 seconds. My synch would be finished sometime in the next millenium!

I unplugged the usb cable from the hub and plugged it into the usb socket on the back of my mac. Now I am synching 1-3 songs per second. Much better!

I have a strange problem with my ipad sync.

My sync with my ipad takes hours. The back up is reasonably fast but when it starts to sync it slows down. The last sync took more than 12 hours.

The stange thing is that my wife's ipad synced on the same computer with the same apps have no problems. The back up and sync took minutes.

Any solutions?

For windows 7 users

if using default install of itune.

1. open "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support" (if not default search for file on step 2).

2. right click on "AppleMobileBackup.exe".

3. click properties.

4. select Compatibility tab.

5. check "Run this program as an administrator".

6. click ok.

do the same for itune program.

1. open "C:\Program Files\iTunes"

2. right click on "iTunes.exe"

3. follow step 3 - 6 above.

Changing rights to "run as administrator" as suggested by Vince, didn't change anything for me. I run Win 7 Pro.

In fact, iTunes wouldn't start.

Syncing my iPad2 and iPhone4 with 20 Gb data takes 10-20 minutes, even when there is no new data to sync. Ending the sync session typically takes most of the time, while copying of files is quite rapid.

I hope faster sync with win7 is under way.

My problem was GoodReader. iTunes would hang after a few hours of backup. After removing GoodReader's sync with SugarSync, in total 1GB of files, AND deleting the files, my problem was finally gone. I now maintain less than 150MB in GoodReader and all is good.

GoodReader need to provide the same solution as Zinio did "Library Backup to OFF".

Using OSX 10.7 and iTunes 10.4

Does Apple have anybody reading these problems people are having? Or has that been outsourced too?

How many of you get a "barber poll" for your backup status and then it turns solid silver for the B/U Progress?

iPad won't backup on Windows 7 machine.

iPad Touch will backup on that same Windows machine.

iPad will backup on a Mac Mini.

Both the iPad and the iPod Touch are using iOS 4.3.5; Both are 64 gig.

I've tried the various recommended remedies. Any ideas for this scenario?

My only guess is an App that bothers iTunes for Win7. I'll go digging for it when I have another weekend to waste. I might have to transfer all my files to the Mac and give up on iTunes on Windows. I certainly won't recommend istuff for anyone without a Mac anymore.

Sometimes I get the barber pole that turns to the solid silver bar that eventually stops.

Sometimes I get the message about not being able to save to the computer.

Sometimes I get the session error, though not as often.

After searching and searching for any help on the net and trying tons of different things that did not help,I finally downloaded backoff from digidna.net.

I am so happy!

I have been trying to update the software on my mums iPad 1 for months but always give up because of the bloody updates that take forever ( well they never actually finished, I gave up after many hours)

I installed backoff , updated her iPad then did a manual back up. All in all it took about 15 mins!

I feel like telling the world!

Solved--at least for me under Windows 7. Spyware Doctor by PCTools caused the problem but they fixed it and noted it on their support forum. It also fixed an issue where the iTunes store was not appearing in iTunes though the store appeared properly in browsers. Their fix addressed both issues for me.

The iPad once again backs up and syncs properly on the Windows machine, and the iTunes store appears properly.

Short version: I was using Spyware Doctor with Anti-Virus version 8.0.0.651. The issue has been fixed in version 8.0.0.662. Simply download the new version http://www.pctools.com/mirror/sdasetup.exe

I have been having the same problem. I also had a look at the task manager and saw that Itunes and APSdaemon was using 100% of my resources.

I then seaarched this site for a solution to that - my backup just took 10 minutes.

So this is what I did with Itunes running"

1. Open Task manager

2. Check CPU usage = 100% if not this probably wont work

3. See if it is APSDAEMON and Itunes

XP Service Pack 3 Users - Winsock Reset also worksusing MIcrosoft Fix It tool:

Go to http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=811259

In windows 7, click on your start menu, go toaccessories, right click on the command prompt icon and choose "run asadministrator". Once it opens, type in the following command...

netsh winsock reset

hit enter and it should say something like winsock reset successful now rebootyour computer.

My synching was extremely slow, but then I realized that my I tunes library spawned multiple hard drives, amongst which a slow wifi connected network drive. Once I got rid of that, it worked fine.
