Double tap no longer working as double click

all other keyboard shortcuts working, but double tap (secondary tap checked in system pref/trackpad) has not worked in a week, so i've had to resort to CTRL+tap - is this a hardware problem or is there a way to re-enable thru system pref?

David, the first thing to check is Settings > Trackpad > Two Fingers > make sure Secondary Tap is checked. This is what enables the secondary tap.

Cheers

Edit: sorry, didn't read your post closely enough. You apparently know about this. Why don't you uncheck and recheck. I'm sure there is some Plist you could delete and reset all those options, I just don't know what it is. Sorry for the non-help. 😟

Try resetting your SMC and PRAM.

Resetting the System Management Controller >>

Also, login to another User account and test it there. If it works, you probably have a corrupt preference file in your main User Library.
