Canon Camera not Mounting

I've had this problem a couple of times. Just solved it by switching USB cords: the one that came with the camera (says "Canon" on it) worked, but the other one I'd grabbed at random did not. I am now able to download my photos and video into Lightroom 3. Hope this helps!

An external card reader seems like the best option if you want to access the card contents from Finder.

I have Digital Elph SD960IS and an EOS 7d and have never been able to mount them in OSX. The various Mac-based photo programs see the cameras no problem.

Call me paranoid, but before deleting photos, I like to see that my source (i.e. the camera) and the destination (i.e. folder on my mac) have the same contents before deleting files on the camera. Doing this through the actual file system has always seemed to most foolproof method to me.

Since I also have Windows on my mac, my current solution is to start my Windows VM and do my file copying and deleting in Windows Explorer. I can always see the Cameras there. I don't see why Canon would choose to handle OSX differently than Windows.

I am having major issues. I have a canon rebel xti and when I bought my macbook pro a year or so ago, it came with the snow leopard osx and I was able to up load my pictures just fine. Somewhere in all the updates to OSX, it has taken away the ability to detect my Canon AT ALL!! Image Capture does not even recognize it. I have been working on this for about 9 hours today, and I am at a total loss. I even went back to the Canon site and downloaded the software for the snow leopard osx and I still can't get any of the picture products to find my pictures. I loved using iphoto because it was so easy to mail the photos in large numbers or upload straight to facebook from iphoto.

Can anyone help with this. I see that a lot of people are suggesting image capture, but even that does not detect my device.

If all else fails, you can always get a card reader, put the camera's card in the reader, plug the reader into the computer. It should mount like any drive and you can import from there, or simply copy the images from the drive to the computer.

My PowerMac G5 running Mac Osx 10.5.8 won't even find my Canon PowerShot A1100 IS. The lights are blinking on the camera but it doesn't show up in the devices on finser please help.

I had the same problem with my Digital Rebel. It was awhile since I used it. It worked well the last time I used it.

I have a 2010 MacBook Pro running 10.6.8

I know I went through at least one system update since I last connected my camera.

When I connected it recently, the screen would blink and flash as it tried to mount the camera.

I had the Canon utilities installed and that wouldn't even recognize it. It seemed like the the computer was trying to do something, but couldn't.

I decided to remove the Canon utilities and power cycle the computer (not just a restart, I powered down, waited 10 seconds, then powered it up.) I also emptied the trash for good measure before I shut it down.

iPhoto now mounts my camera properly.

My Macbook pro running OS 10.5.8 also will not mount a Canon Powershot Elph 300HS.

As others have written, the SD card will not appear on the desktop, but the camera's activity lights blink normally.

The Image Capture app does work, however: it sees the Elph and downloads the photos and the movies.

Cameras will either present themselves as USB mass storage devices (e.g., an SD card reader) or PictureTransfer Protocol (PTP) device. Some models of cameras allow you to configure which mode the camera operates in, others only support one mode. Most modern cameras prefer using PTP because it permits the camera to transmit metadata about the images and image thumbnails without haveing to open and read each image (important if the images are large).

The Image Capture application, iPhoto, and Aperture support importing from either, but the Finder only supports things that are semantically like disks (USB mass storage), instead of a database (Picture Transfer Protocol).

Late model Canon Elph cameras are all PTP.

If you'd like to access the underlying filesystem on the SD card, you'll want to use a card reader.

As menntioned, uset a USB card reader.

Not only do they always work and the icon will show in Finder, but the entire download process is so much easier than trying to fiddle with the camera itself. So, just take the card out, put it into a card reader, insert that, and you're ready to go. Extra benefit: it preserves your battery life....

It would be great if there was a plugin for the Finder to show Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP) devices.

I am fine using Image Capture to transfer the photos and movies off of the SD Card, but it is less convenient than manually manipulating the SD card (for me). And I definitely do not want Yet Another Device like a USB card reader to deal with. The camera itself ought to be sufficient as a reader.
