Problem Installing iTunes 9.1.0.79 for Windows Vista 6 APR 10

When I try to install iTunes it says :
"An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft VC80.CRT,Version="9.0.50727.4053",type="win32",publicKeyToken="1fc8b9a1e18e3b", process or Architecture="x86". Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT:0x90070422."

It then rolls back installation and attempts again. Then it says "Congratulations. iTunes has been successfully installed on your computer."

I then try to open iTunes and it says :
"Apple Application Support version 1.0 is intalled, iTunes requires Apple Application Support version 1.2 or later. Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again."

"This application has failed to start because CoreVideo.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

"This application has failed to start because CoreAudioToolbox.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

Ive tried un-installing and re-installing several time but no success.

I then tried going back to another installer package I had (9.0.3.15) and it said :

"An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft VC80.CRT,Version="8.0.50727.4053",type="win32",publicKeyToken="1fc8b9a1e18e3b", process or Architecture="x86". Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT:0x80070422."

"iTunes Installer Completed. The installer encountered errors before iTunes could be configured. Your system has not been modified. To retry these operations at a later time, please run the installer again."

I'm assuming that the first one was also actually an 0x80070422 too?

These are generally associated with an underlying problem that causes Windows Updates to fail on a PC too. So my main strategy with them is to apply the Microsoft documentation for the same error code on Windows Update failures.

... unfortunately, there's a whole bunch of different things that might possibly cause a 0x80070422 ...

Let's start with the following document:

[Error message: “The necessary service "Automatic Updates" (WUAUSERV) is not started or Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) is disabled. Error 0x8DDD0018” or Error codes 0x80244019 or 0x80070422 when attempting to install updates.|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/959894]

After applying those measures, head to Windows Update and attempt to stock up on new updates. If those go through, try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

No, it is a separate error (0x90070422). I tried running Windows Update and was able to install everything with the exception of "Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB973688)" and "Security Update for MicrosoftVisual C++ 2005 Service Pack Redistributable Package (KB973923)" and "Microsoft .NET Frameword 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB951847)x86". I then restarted my computer in "Safe Mode" and ran McAfee Security Center full virus scan, The Windows Live OneCare Safety Scanner (which repeatedly failed even when I tried to run only the basics and disabled my firewall. It gave the error code 0x0C600C03 and said refer to the forums), I went to the forums and one of the techs recommended ESET Online Scanner since Windows Scanner wouldn't work so I ran that, Windows-kb890830-x64-v3.5.exe (the MSRT (FULL)), and Spybot - Search & Destroy (all with updated definitions). None of them detected anything (with the exception of some tracking cookies).

I then restarted in "normal" mode and tried to do the Windows Update but still failed. I then uninstalled AppleApplicaion Support, Apple Software Update, Bonjour, iTunes, and QuickTime. Restarted. And tried to install iTunes 9.1.0.79 but got the same error. I did the same with iTunes 9.0.3.15 and got the same errors as before.

I then ran "Services.MSC" and verified that the Background Intelligent Transfer Service, Windows Event Log, Windows Update, and Software Licensing were all running and set to Automatic and attempted to reinstall the Windows updates. I was unable to install the same updates from before and still unable to install iTunes.
