Logic and EastWest Play VST

Just started using EastWest Play Complete Composers Collection with Logic 9.1.1.

I had a lot of memory issues running Play, and after a lot of experimenting have got things working better by doing the following:

1. Chosen a "Lite" sample set (uses half as many samples)
2. Switched off the plugin's convolution reverb
3. Upped Logic's buffer setting to 1024

I have filtered out Channel Pressure, Pitch Bend and Aftertouch in an attempt to avoid the other issue I was having: every now and again there were weird pitch wobbles.

However I have still noticed some anomilies, occasionally playback sounds like as if its changing speed/pitch slightly (like a tape reel slipping on an old multitrack).

Is this a streaming issue or some MIDI issue?

Incidentally I tried using Play as standalone app linked via IAC driver but this seemed to overload the processor, as pressing a piano key in Logic did nothing for several seconds then I would get a distorted jerky plaback. I thought it was a MIDI loop so checked the clicks and ports to makes sure. Any idea why this does not work?
