"Disable remote control receiver" option gone?

I have an Apple remote which I use rarely, so in order to save power I disable the remote receiver from the system preferences.

Since I upgraded to 10.6 in December this option is missing most of the times & have to restart to get in back. Generally I do not shutdown / restart my Mac in weeks.

Is it a known bug in 10.6?
How to fix it?

Hi,

If you haven't tried this, open System Preferences/Security then select the General tab.

You may need to click the gold padlock icon bottom left in the pane to make changes. You will be prompted for your admin password.

You can select or deselect: Disable remote control infrared receiver.

If necessary, click "Pair" button and follow the instructions.

When you are finished click the gold padlock icon so it's locked and Quit System Preferences.

Ok...

Go to ~/Library/Preferences and move the com.apple.systempreferences.plist file to the Trash and *restart your iMac.*

See if that made a difference.

If not, download and install the v10.6.3 Combo Update It's ok to do this even if you are already running v10.6.3

Then repair disk permissions.

Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

Problem Solved!!!

Installed Security Update 2010-003 released 4/14/10 (this brought the IR Receiver back into System Profiler) and then RE-Installed the 10.6.3 Combo Update (this brought back the option for Able/Disable IR Receiver under the System Prefs/Security/General Tab).

I have had this issue for months and now it is solved! Hopefully it works for everyone else having this issue.
