LE8, I want 2 keyboards to play 2 different sounds live

I have a new gig playing keys. I want to set up 2 midi controllers (Axiom 61 and Axion 25) so that I can play piano on the Axiom 61 while playing a synth lead on the 25 without making any adjustments.
I am using LE8. I have read the manual, watched Youtubes and tried the environment window, but I can't get the 2 keyboards to output on separate midi channels and then have the different tracks read only MIDI ch 1 or MIDI ch2. Is there a better way to do this? I'm going crazy.

MacBook 2G INtel Core Duo, Mac OS X (10.6.3), M-Audio Axiom 61, Axion 25

Did you select "Auto Demix by channel" (Go to file -> project preferences -> record -> MIDI -> Auto demix). If you dont check this box, logic won't split the received MIDI data to different channels / tracks. FAQ Chapter 17 or so... 🙂

Have Fun,
