Check this document for assistance with the error message that you have been receiving.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2690

As far as the contact issue, did you backup your iTunes library from the old computer? Did you have your contacts backed up in a supported application on the computer, such as Outlook or Address book? Photos that are synced to the iPhone are ones that are resident in a folder contained on the computer, not in the iTunes backup. Applications can be redownloaded from the App store if necessary, however with the phone connected, you could right click on the iPhone and select transfer purchases.

The iPhone's backup does not include ANY iTunes content - music, video, podcasts, or 3rd party apps. And the backup does not include ANY photos transferred from your computer to your iPhone via the iTunes sync/transfer process.

This link provides the data included with your iPhone's backup.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766

Where is your computer's backup for the computer you were using previously to sync your iPhone with , which should included your iTunes library along with all other important data such as photos, documents, your contact info, etc.?

If your iTunes library was not included with your previous computer's backup or wasn't transferred from your previous computer to your new computer with the computers networked in some fashion, you would have lost all iTunes content on your iPhone anyway. In regards to iTunes content, an iPhone can be synced with an iTunes library on a single computer only. When transferring iTunes content from another computer, all iTunes content that was transferred from a different computer will be erased from the iPhone first - with one exception. When transferring your iTunes library - the entire iTunes folder from one computer to the other. Photos in your iPhone's Camera Roll are included with your iPhone's backup but should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera.

Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. Select 'Apple Mobile Device' and on the left side click 'Stop the service'. After it has stopped then select 'Start the service'. Then try opening iTunes again to see if this resolves it.

If you don't have access to your iTunes library on your other computer to transfer to your new computer, your apps are gone especially after restoring your iPhone with iTunes. iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store from an iPod or iPhone, but you can't do this now since you restored your iPhone with iTunes and no iTunes content is included with your iPhone's backup.

You can re-download all apps with iTunes on your computer after authorizing your new computer with your iTunes account with iTunes. You won't be charged again for a purchased app as long as you use the same iTunes account to re-download the app that was used to purchase the app originally.

I'm having the same exact problem and cannot figure out how to fix it. Everything was working fine until I updated to iTunes 9.1. Now whenever I plug in my iPhone I get that same error message. I tried uninstalling all Apple software and reinstalling it. I tried restoring my iPhone and now I don't have ANYTHING on my iPhone and I can't even get to the "restore from backup" option.

Someone needs to fix this ASAP.

    Copied from an earlier post.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2690

    And copied from my post.

Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. Select 'Apple Mobile Device' and on the left side click 'Stop the service'. After it has stopped then select 'Start the service'. Then try opening iTunes again to see if this resolves it.

Who were you ranting at and why ?

Given there are millions of us working just fine, it looks likely that the problem is at your end.

We are all just Users like you so some politeness might be appreciated if you expect assistance. Or I'll start describing you as a Yorkshireman.

I'm having trouble as well. I bought the iPhone on Thursday; and downloaded iTunes to this computer that evening (it has never had iTunes on it before). I signed into my iTunes account, auth'ed the comp, synced my iPod Touch no problem - but when I plugged the new iPhone in, it told me "iTunes was unable to load provider data from Sync Services. Reconnect or try again later." I've done every step and suggestion I found on this site, to no avail. I've tried two different USB cables in each of the three USB ports, no luck. I've removed and reinstalled all components as indicated, no luck. I've rebooted both the iPhone and the computer each time, no luck.

When I plug in the iPhone (and now, also the iPod Touch), I get the message "iTunes was unable to load provider data from Sync Services. Reconnect or try again later." I can still sync my Touch no problem; but when I hook up the iPhone, although the iPhone shows on the left bar as present, when I click on it I do not get the Sync settings page I get with the Touch (or with my kids' Nanos). Everything else in iTunes still works as normal; and I can even click to eject the iPhone, but I cannot do anything else. I can understand the others' frustration, because it is driving me bonkers. I am positive the problem is on my end, but I can't for the life of me figure out if it is the iPhone, iTunes or the computer that is causing it. Any advice is appreciated - at this point I'm willing to try just about anything.

Are you running W7 64 bit or 32 bit ?
  • cotty01 Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)
i think its 64 bit but not sure now how do i find this out & does it need to be running at 64 bit
  • cotty01 Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)
    hi
sorry pc is running at 64 bit
  • Graham Outterside Level 4 Level 4 (2,910 points)
well I recall a LOT of problems in 3.1.3 originally were only solved by going back to the 32 bit version but thats neither an easy path nor necessarily a logical one.

Some of those who persisted with W7-64 found solutions in here http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2383064&tstart=100

and the current version of iTunes appears to be the culprit.

Is there anything in there that you have not been able to try ?
