Disc Burner or Software Not Found

For some reason whenever I try and burn a cd off a playlist I created, it says "disc burner or software not found". Does anyone know what I could do to fix this?
Thanks!

I've had this same problem since updating to the version 8 of iTunes. New versions haven't fixed it, uninstalling and reinstalling also haven't worked for me. I've tried all kinds of fixes I've found online and they've been no help either. This is quite frustrating because it is for sure an issue with iTunes as I can burn discs in other programs but none of those other programs are nearly as easy to use as iTunes (when it works properly!) If anyone has any ideas please post!

So do you think if we get enough posts apple will fix it. I too have tried everything short of calling. They need to put out a hot fix for it. Or in WoW terms... Patch the dang thing. Grrr. Patch Day is Tuesday, forgot.

Anyways I am trying to put a movie together for a class and I need the music I have to be on CD so I can convert it to MP3.. this is frustrating... and its poor service that Apple wont do anything... Hmm... channel 9 news? 60 minutes, ABC news?

Would like to see if anyone in the forum has come up with a quick after everything has been tried.

I really regret downloading/installing iTunes on my PC...I don't know what is wrong with Apple...A quick search on Google, shows this is a recurring problem...I see it in 2007, 2009, and now it's happening again.

Why do you people put up with software that has such continuing problems...I've never experienced anything like this with Windows Media Player. I regret purchasing my latest group of about 25 songs that are now stuck in iTunes without the capability of burning a CD from my own music.

Does Apple ever listen to these complaints? ...What's wrong with a company that can't seem to fix a software problem over a period of several years on one of their showcase programs?

Lets be realistic people, if this was an ITUNES issue, it would be on EVERYONE'S computer, this is a mixture of the software and YOUR computer, no one is to blame, sometimes software/hardware from two different sources just don't mix well.

So perhaps instead of complaining you can provide myself and the other users here with a little more information so we can help you.

The main thing that we need is your itunes diagnostics, so simply go to Help, run diagnostics, then only select the dvd/cd one, hit the next button until you get to a large wall of text, copy it and paste it here, and we can try to assist you.

I am suspecting the culprit here may be the AFS.SYS driver that comes with some other programs, its not a windows signed driver, which for some reason, when your computer shuts that down, sometimes it shuts down the GEARAspiWDM drivers itunes uses.

Edit: er, sorry, I guess I meant "person" not "people" 🙂

Is there a disc burner that will work itunes 9. I installed Roxio Easy CD and DVD, and even with a patch that Roxio sent along iTunes still won't recognize it. I certainly agree with the many wondering why Apple is seemingly ignoring the issue.

BTW: The reason why I need a workable disc burner is to back up the playlist prior to reinstalling iTunes. Anyway to back up playlists outside of itunes?

Here you go, Nudethecih:
Okay...maybe I was a little harsh on Apple. But this happens to people and has been happening since at least 2007. One day everything is working fine, then the next day you can't burn CDs in iTunes (but you can still burn CDs in WMP or other software)...Apple's only suggestion is to reinstall/upgrade...everyone tries that and that doesn't work.

*iTunes Diagnostics says it can't find an audio CD*...so I have an audio CD in the DVD/CD/RW player that can play and burn on/from any other piece of software on the computer...you tell me what any reasonable person would think the problem is.

[N.B. Still plays audio CDs fine. Problem, again, is recognizing the burner I have so I can do a playlist backup.]

Hi there, I too have started to experience this issue. it followed my husband removing a different music tool "cakewalk" or such like and i think the removal has removed something from the Registry relating to itunes allowing me to burn discs. when I open up itunes now, I get "The Registry settings used by itunes drivers for importing and burning CD's and DVD's is missing". It then tells me to reinstall itunes. ive now done this multiple times, including fully removing itunes and loading from fresh and Im still unable to burn CD's.

My diagnostics states that the last CD burn had an error code 4450(0x00001162). failed loading CD/DVD drives, error 43.

Anyway assistance on how I can get the missing drivers reinstalled would be greatly appreciated.

it is an itunes issue, i have burn with this drive and it has worked fine in every other application. IT IS A ITUNES ISSUE. no matter how much of the apple koolaid you have drank, troubleshooting is trouble shooting and all of mine has lead back to it being an Itunes issue, the dianostic tells me that the drive is working perfectly, and well it does import fine, it just wont burn

There is a section on how to delete the upper and lower filter entries in the registry for the control of the burner. It states to modify the registry so follow these instructions carefully.

Here is what I did;
Go to start; run; regedit ;left Click on the plus sign for HKEY LocalMachine; System; CurrentControlSet; Control; Class; Now highlight the entry that begins with 4D36E965. Delete the Lower Filter and Upper Filter references. Then go online and download the GEAR AspiWDM driver.

http://www.gearsoftware.com/support/drivers.php

download the driver for 32 and 64 bit systems.

After installing this iTunes should be able to find the burner. I am not sure what is happening with many of the computers but it appears that the entry is easily corrupted. I have only seen this on one of my 3 computers.
