iTunes not detecting iPhone

I've had my iPhone 3G for almost 2 years now and have never had an issue with it. 2 weeks ago I built a new PC. My iPhone was working fine until yesterday. When I plug in the phone, Windows sees it, but iTunes does not. iTunes will actually lock up for a few minutes. My Macbook sees it, my wife's Vista machine sees it. My current PC is Windows 7 64-bit with an Asus P6X58D Premium mother board.

Here's the troubleshooting steps I've tried:
-Uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes
-Downgrading to older versions of iTunes
-Rebooting the iPhone
-Using all 6 USB ports on the motherboard
-Updating the USB drivers on the motherboard
-Installing a PCI USB card
-using 3 different iPhone/iPod cables
-Stopping and Starting the apple device service
-Deleting the iphone from the device manager

Any suggestions on what to try next? I was considering restoring the phone, but it works on other computers, so I think it's something with iTunes or Windows that's causing it. I had been running windows 7 since it came out with no problems. The only thing to change is my mobo and CPU, but even that worked for 2 weeks.

I have the same issue. Windows 7 x64 and iTunes 9.1. I've seen this before on other computers that I support so I knew what to look for. In the device manager, you'll see Portable Devices>Apple iPhone. Double click on it and then click on Driver. I'll lay money that the driver provider is Microsoft and not Apple.

The problem that I've found is that the Apple driver isn't where it's suppose to be. In fact I can't find any iPhone driver in any of the Apple folders that work.

The driver is suppose to be located in c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers. The problem is that there is no Drivers folder there. Even reinstalling iTunes doesn't fix the issue.

So basically we're in the same boat right now. It worked before I upgraded to iTunes 9.1 so I suspect the problem is with iTunes but I can't be sure at this point.

I thought it was 9.1 too. I download 9.0.3 and it worked this morning, but after I disconnected the phone and reconnected it a second time it didn't see it anymore.

I did try to replace the driver that Windows installs for the iPhone, but when I try and install the Apple one it says it's not a compatible driver. I forgot to mention I tried that too.

Before I just did a repair install of iTunes. This time though I uninstalled iTunes, rebooted and reinstalled it. The driver still isn't where it's suppose to be. I just wanted to do a sync since it's been a while but kinda hard to do when it doesn't have the right driver loaded....

hhmmmm...wonder if the driver can be downloaded from another source. Just thinking outloud....

Ok...something else I just noticed. We have similar motherboards. Both are X58 chipsets and are made by Asus. My board is the P6T.

The only reason I bring this up is that in Googling, I found a similar issue back last November with the P55 chipsets, the latest version of iTunes at that time, iPhones and Windows 7 x64.

I think the key is going to be overwriting the Windows drivers with the Apple drivers.

I do have an idea but it'll take me a couple of hours to make it work. I can do an install of Windows 7 x64 inside of a vm. Install 9.0.3 iTunes and hopefully the driver will be there. I should then be able to find drivers and hopefully get them working.

Normally I've been installing iTunes, then plugging in my phone. I just uninstalled iTuens, then rebooted. Then plugged my phone in. Then installed iTunes. It sees it right now and is currently syncing. Who knows how long it will last though. It's still showing the Windows driver for the phone.

I backed up my phone, then did a wipe, then restored the backup. The backup doesn't contain any of my phone's info. I lost everything. I don't know what happened. I'm so ****** right now.

Weird thing. I installed Windows 7 x64 on Parallels on my MacBook Pro. Installed iTunes 9.0.3 and it saw my phone just fine. But the driver is also M$. In the USB controllers section though there is another Apple Mobile Device USB Driver. And that is an Apple Driver. I hooked back to my main box and it shows both (did before too) and all of a sudden it showed up in iTunes.

Maybe the phone just needs to be hooked into iTunes but not synced on another box to kick in on the main box...

I tried that already. I had it connected to my MacBook and my wife's PC. Both see it fine. My PC isn't seeing it anymore since restoring the backup.

I am having the same problem also, I am trying to figure out what went on... 2 weeks ago I upgraded (not a clean install) to Windows 7 32 bit. I synced my iphone 32gs just before the upgrade. All was well, then last week I installed itunes 9.1 and ever since I have received the the error message "itunes cannot sync information wiht the iphone "myiPhone" because syncing has been disabled on this computer. Do you want to enable syncing. blah, balh blah, I click yes then I get the following error message: itunes was unable to load provider data from sync services. reconnect or try again later.

Apparently this is not the first time this error has occurred, I have read several posts but I can't find the files they refer to because none of those posts are current. I have uninstalled itunes, and quicktime, I have ripped out other applicable files after finding them in my "user" file area. I have rebooted my iPhone, I have reinstalled the driver for the iphone, I have reinstalled itunes. I have done all this to no avail. I can sync my app data, videos and music what I cannot sync is outlook's calendar, contacts and notes. I am just plain frustrated!

I restarted the iPod service and since then I've successfully connected and synced my phone 3 times. I'm hoping this fixed the problem. Anyone else have any luck?
